Replacement GPU fan for GT73VR 6RF?

I'm pretty sure the bearing(s) on the GPU fan of my GT73VR 6RF are starting to go. It's starting to sound exactly like the ones in this video, and the issue occurs at about the same speed - ~2,000 rpm.



Based on the teardown video @Phoenix did, swapping out the fan looks like a 5 minute job. I'd rather do it myself since trying to play tag with MSI directly and getting an RMA would cost at least 2-3 weeks of time. It's just a matter of tracking down the part, which I've had no success doing. Is this something that can be obtained directly from MSI? Can I have one of our esteemed resellers special order the part and have them send it or get it drop-shipped to me directly? Cost isn't an issue, unless of course we're talking about something that's hundreds of dollars.

People have had success convincing MSI to ship one directly, under warranty.

 

I'll shoot them a note and see what they say. Hopefully with a link to the video above they will just toss a fan in a box and send it.

 

If you are still under warranty, that should do it. Make sure you include your serial number in your request.

Your other best option is to work with the dealer from whom you purchased your GT73VR.

Update:

MSI responded to my online ticket by simply issuing an RMA number. Of course, they want you to pay to ship the computer back to them, not to mention how long it would take to complete the repair. So I called and explained this to them, and the support person placed an order for the fan to be shipped to me. He said he wasn't sure if they even had the part in stock and to follow up in a week or so if I didn't hear anything. So now we wait.

Can you share MSI's phone number? (you can PM me if it's an issue). I'd like to call them to get a spare fan also. Having a spare fan is ALWAYS a good thing these days. You never know when they will break. Better to be prepared.

Update: No word from MSI, but I did manage to track down a like-new pair of GT73 fans from someone on fleBay. Cost me less than what it would have been to ship the laptop back to MSI, and I had them in 3 days from the end of the auction. Got them both put in, tweaked the fan profile a bit more, and everything is working beautifully. Well enough for me to put this machine up for sale once I set up the new toy in my signature.

Can you link the fans you purchased or were there only a limited number?

 

The lot I purchased consisted of one CPU and one GPU fan from a private seller, so a link to the listing isn't going to do you any good.
