Can someone post a guide teaching me how to do this properly? I would like to access the 3rd ram slot.

I would like to know this as well because I am going to add a 3 ram stick soon.

    1. Remove the two screws on the bottom of the laptop
    2. Use you fingernails and ply up the keyboard starting from the upper left corner.

Hope this helps. It worked for me.

Thanks for the info. It looks like there are 5 slots/possibly tabs along the top side of the keyboard. Do you think it would be safer/simpler to pry up the keyboard using a small flathead into those tabs after you remove the screws on the bottom?

hmm i havent tried that, but it came off pretty easily for me if I just start prying up slowly from the left side with my fingers. dont worry, nothing will snap.

Just did this, and yes it's so simple you don't even need a walkthrough, just get a nail underneath and work your way across the tabs up top, and don't yank on the keyboard once it's loose as the ribbon connector is around the middle of the keyboard. Thanks dnoymar.

The third RAM slot is very accessible, right underneath a plastic ribbon like material. Unfortunately I tried installing a 2GB stick and it wouldn't work, boots to a blank screen. I'm hoping because it's a bad stick and not because I have the i5 version, which I'm reading doesn't support triple channel. Big bummer :(

Oh well, at least I'm typing now on a flex free keyboard.

I still have flex when all of my slots are filled.

    Doesn't really bother me though.

I should clarify - once I got the keyboard off I applied some 3M mounting tape underneath directly to the keyboard (double sided, one side applied to the keyboard, the other left unpeeled - pretty common practice I think) . Simple fix if you've got serious keyboard flex. My WASD and ZXC keys were pretty bad. Whenever you pressed them they were loud and made the keyboard dip significantly.

Not a bad RAM stick, I just installed a 2GB Patriot 1333 DDR3 10666 into the slot, and it booted to a blank screen. What the heck gives here? The 660R can use all 3 slots just fine.. The i5 doesn't support 3 ram slots? Why is the ram slot there if you can't even use it?!? Luckily frys is accepting a return.

Thanks, that's what I feared. Which also seems to be confirmed on MSI's global page for the GX660 (under memory specifications):

MSI Global ? Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

Dual slot only. What I'm confused about is whether or not this is a limitation of the mobo (and a BIOS update would enable it, for example), or the chipset (Arrandale).

I took every key off my keyboard (MSI GT627), cleaned under them (I was eating and well you know the rest).

The problem was getting my spacebar to work correctly again, because it's not a normal key, it has some metal bars and it's not nice to work with.

    Here is one way:

I had a bit of a twisting motion as I took mine off.

Not something I would do too much, I just know one of the plastic things will break sooner or later and I will be stuck having to buy a new keyboard.

Are these the two longer screws? I just disassembled the laptop bottom door and I think the long screws were in the wrong holes from the factory (ie they were not in the holes keyboard screw holes). Can someone confirm. I have a disassembly guide but it says all the screws are of equal length. Must be a typo there.

Don't even bother wasting the petrol heading to your local tech shop my friend. It is unbelievably simple to do. Just be careful lifting the keyboard off after you un-click the tabs, as the keyboard is still attached to the MB in the middle via the connector ribbon. Just unscrew the two screws labeled with the keyboard symbol on the bottom, then go slow with your nail under the top of the keyboard from left to right, and carefully lift the keyboard away from the NB. You'll be fine.

Anyway i do enjoy headphones XD.

    Thanks mate.

I'm afraid the i5 processor of the GX660 is limited to reading 2 ram slots. or so i've heard(read actually)...

Yes, thanks, it's pretty d*** confusing when you have a MB that supports 3 slots of RAM, all the item descriptions on NewEgg, Amazon etc. of the GX660-053US say 12GB max memory, but you really don't unless you upgrade to quad core. Kind of misleading, but I take the blame, I should have researched the Arrandale a bit more (really though I'm very happy with the performance of the i5. And it runs cool, no heat issues whatsoever).
