Hi everyone, I have here a Japanese Version of the MSI GT72VR. In Japan it's re-branded as the Dospara Galleria qsf1070hgs.
Original specs are as follows:
CPU:Core i7-6820HK
Ram:16GB DDR4
GPU:GeForce GTX1070(8GB) MXM
I bought a bare chassis laptop with motherboard for 14,000 Japanese Yen (approximately $128 USD) this one has a soldered i7 6820hq, the lcd sreen has been removed, the MXM GTX 1070 has been removed, and also the heatsink for the GPU has also been removed.
I want to buy the necessary parts in order to use this laptop again.
Does anyone know the part number for the GPU heatsink and what lcd screens are compatible?
Also, MXM Pascal GPU's are not within my budget so I'm thinking would it be possible to downgrade to a GTX 970m or GTX 980m? Do I also need to buy a new set of heatsink for the CPU and GPU?
I have here pictures of my unit.
Hoping for your advice.

I would get some RAM and try to boot via an external monitor to test the motherboard first. once it is working, should you get the LCD panel, SSD then GPU the latest,
Not sure the following is missing from your system:
- GPU Core Heatsink
- PCI-E NVME raid card
- SATA HDD Cable
- Power Supply?

Thanks fot replying to my thread. Before the seller sent the laptop to me, he sent me a photo showing the laptop works before dismantling it. He tested his gtx 1070 and his owm screen.
I don't have the budget for a gtd 1070 so I'm planning to get a gtx 980m instead. Also since the gpu heatsink is missing, the replacement heatsink for 10 series and pascal gpu costs like 150 dollars to 200 dollars. I decided to order thisheatsink for gtx 980m and 970m for 12 dollars.
My concern is that this heatsink is for the 5th gen broadwell cpu. Mine has the skylake i7 6820hk. Will my cpu fit this heatsink? Im pretty sure the gpu part is fine as long as I get a 970m or 980m.
Also sata hdd cable is too expensive costs about 40 dollars on Aliexpress so Im optimg for a hdd caddy for the optical drive. -
I can see that the GPU RAM + MOSFET Heatsink is intact in your system but with 4nos missing screw that secure on top of the CPU Heatsink. please note that for the 4th/5th gen GPU RAM + mosfet heatsink the heatpipe fixed to the CPU heatsink sided by side, for 6th gen the heatpipe attached on top of the 3 CPU heatpipe, so you cant really mix and match.
But since the 980M GPU Core Heatsink covers GPU RAM, you might like to use your original CPU Heaksink with the 980M GPU core (covers RAM also) and maybe buy some after market heatsink to stick on the GPU VRM for auxillary cooling.

I had bought an dead GT72 with 4700/16GB/no SSD noHDD/ 880M upgraded to 980M (owner grinded the head sink to fit 980M) last year for about (200USD).
I think it would be an easy fix, and I checked and the fault was 980M VRM toasted and short circuit, so upon removal of the GPU, the machine can bootup, the seller included the old 880M also, which was in full working order, so I replaced the original card and added a 2.5" SSD for a functional laptop. Unfortunately the screen backlight has some marks in it as it was stored in a humid place and some keys on the keyboard doesnt work, irritating...
I didnt replace the screen, as it was minor issue, just not too comfortable to look at in plain color background, it is ok if you play video or having a dynamic picture, but for the keyboard I must fix and got a replacement for around 30USD.
I then sent the 980M to a professional for repair, refreshed the thermal pad and I gave the laptop to my relative, after 6 months of good use, it die again (most likely the 980M is dead)
So strongly advise you get the base unit up and running first before getting 970M/980M.drystxx likes this. -
This is really good information. Thank you so much. So to clarify:
1. CPU Heatsink - I must use my existing one for 6th gen skylake processor
2. GPU Core Heatsink - I must use 980M version
3. GPU RAM + Moset heatsink - can't use my existing one for 10 series card and also can't use 980m version as it won't fit either.
So for number 3, I need to find an aftermarket replacement for GPU ram + mosfet heatsink,, would you have any suggestions as to where to look for one? or sample photos? -

I see. I already ordered the 980m gpu + cpu heataink from Ebay while the 980m and replacement screen on Taobao. All headed to Japan. I'll let you know as soon as I receive the parts.
I think I could still use the 980m gpu vrm and mosfet heatsink. I was able to remove the heatpipe which wasn't easy at all. I could swap heatpipes with the 980m version.

How's your gt72 now? did your cousin replaced the gpu to get it working again? -
MS-1785 from White Brand Product, I have exactly the same one(ok, the arrangement of the keys is different).
I left my vrm&mosfet part of the heat sink as "one", but I unscrewed it from cpu cooling to separate the cooling of the processor from the cooling of the graphics card.

He's got a replacement laptop, lets see what happens when he return the GT72 to me when I next see him, mostly likely in August
In fact have you got RAM and see if the system boots up ok?
