Hi again everyone, some of you might know that I had problems in the past
with my 1722 overheating on the GPU and camera doesn't work.
Make sure you use the right bios and firmware for your model of 1722!

I nearly burned my gpu today (it got to 88C)... About 3 weeks ago, I reapplied
AS5 on my GPU cause the temp was a little high, everything worked out fine
till today. A friend came over and test out a new game he is making, (I have
speedfan running for monitoring temperture) the GPU hit 88C after around
10min... anyways, after alot of poking around, I found out it's the bios
causing the problem, I had been using the GX720 bios all along, never noticed
the fan never kicks on... it's been running on low speed all along.
I guess it's kinda a miracle after all these time my cpu and gpu didn't fry XD

you sir are very fortunate to still have a working computer. This is the exact reason why I don't mess with bios updates unless things are not working.

I concur with zfactor. I've run the GX720 bios on multiple ID1's and no problem. I actually just went and grabbed my daughter's ID1 and loaded up DXDiag real time and almost immediately (since it brings GPUs to their knees), the fan kicked right up. I let it run for 5 minutes and as expected, the fans went into high rpm mode.

did you also make sure to flash the firmware after the bios flash? you cant just do the bios. you must also do the firmware after that and use the system control from the 720

yea, I was using the bios/firmware of 720 for awhile but then the camera
button on the left doesn't work, so I had to use the firmware from bto.

Just to say, it might help in some way, although I still don't know how. I also flashed my Bios and firmware with GX720 one. But I'm using MS-1722 ID2. For now everything works fine. that's it... May be GX720 is build upon ID2?

Uh you do know that 88C is not that high, I mean it is high but the card is designed for temperatures higher than that. I have a friend that tested his 9700M GTS with FURMARK and ran it for 3 hours straight at 95C !!! That was over 6 months ago and his card is still running well the last time I spoke with him. In fact he always stress tests his laptops. He runs BOTH Orthos Prime for the CPU and FURMARK for the GPU at the same time for about 3 hours. The highest his CPU will get he says is about 100C and the GPU at 95C.

I understand that most GPUs are able to handle high temps but as apply to
all electronics, the higher the temp, the shorter the life. And with the fan
never kicks in high gear... it is something to worry about.
With proper cooling, both cpu and gpu should not go past 90C.

You are right for the higher temperatures and that they shorts live of electronics. All electronics use Si (actually it's changed atomic structure) and because of that the highest working temperature is 125C. As I've heard - nVidia make their stress tests of their video cards exactly at this temperature. So you shouldn't be worry about 90C. Something about shortened live - as the PC market grows, more and more new products are released and as of that you can never reach this life limit of the components (exept if you don't do extreeme OC - this means a lot higher voltages that it's defaults and temps above 100C), ofcourse if you want to stay up-to-date, and to be possible to enjoy your mashine :D
