Hello everyone, I need your advise. I have sent my MSI GT70 for RMA repair because the left arrow key on keyboard was broken (it was coming out as I was pressing it). MSI replaced the keyboard and sent it back to me. The new keyboard is almost excellent, I have two problems and I want your advise, whether these problems can be solved, or if I have to send it back again for RMA. The problems are:
1) White light under Windows button

You can see that there is a white light under the Windows button, and it is in a place where none of the other buttons have a light. I noticed that if I close the blue light, it becomes green (I have the default keyboard lights). I tried to push it back with a screwdriver, it made some difference, but I am afraid to push it ever more, as I may damage it, scratch it, etc.
2) The other thing is that there is a gap between keyboard, and the other part of the laptop

It looks like the keyboard is smaller than what it should be, and I think is weird as GT60 and GT70 have the same keyboard.
What would you do in my place?
If I can repair it by myself, I would be more than happy to do so. I don't want to wait two weeks more in order to use my laptop.
Thank you

ok, the problem with the light? Can I fix that as well?
-
But i dont understand. Do you want to disable light under windows key? I have the same windows key and the same backlight. I use other color but on all keyboard the same.
-
I mean that under the windows key, there is a light which is misplaced. Here is a picture of what I mean

and btw, the keyboard which came with my GT70 didn't have a gap. -
Is this a problem ? All keyboards in this place has the same led. I had more than 20 steelseries keyboards and all of them has the same led layout.
Gap it is not a kayboard issue. Just look at last photo and use some imagination. Probably technician during assembling didn`t tighten keyboard from the top. But like I said you need just to take off sensor board cover and unscrew keyboard. After you need to make bigger hole for screw to get some adjustment. 5 minutes of work.

Really? Oh, thank you
That saved me two weeks of waiting for nothing. I should be doing some research before speaking up
Thank you

Does anybody have a recommended tool for opening tool for this laptop? I don't want to cause scratches on it...

Decent long thin Philips head screwdriver and patience!
-
Fingers
.
-
Ok, I will try with fingers. I am curious to see how I will fix it, as there is also a gap to right side of the keyboard.
-
As Meaker stated... what ever tool you use patience will be most important!
-
Ok, I have attempted to fix the gap. I achieved to make the gap much smaller, it's still there but I guess it cannot get better without cutting the bottom semi-circled edges of the keyboard.
-
I think some space would be normal? Maybe before and after pics so users who've done this already can see?

After:

I don't know if you can understand the difference with these pictures, but the gap is smaller. -
Good work. That looks good to me and I can see the improvement

Here is a better picture to see the improvement: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14544438/CIMG0011.jpg

Looks good, nice work!

I found out that, if I was pressing the ctrl button, the whole left corner was going little down and the feeling wasn't as it should be. Anyway, I fixed it. I have another question (the last one). If I push a key (eg. F) with more force, the keyboard goes slightly down. Is that how it should be?
-
I think slight keyboard flex is normal. The only laptop I've ever used that had none was the MBP.
-
Ok, thanks for all of your answers. They were very useful to me.
My very last question is about flex. Is it normal to have flex even with a slightly push a some buttons (left keyboard area) while others are fine (central area and the num pad)? -

There will be a bit more flex at each side if you push it.

Hello again, I have some problems again with my GT70 (I am posting them here so I won't have to open a new topic)
1. Sometimes I hear a strange sound from the speakers at random times, I don't know how to describe it, but it's like a click. You can hear it when you power on your laptop and press the power button on msi logo. I can hear that sound on linux too, so I think it's a hardware problem. Ken told me to update the drivers but I haven't tried it yet.
2. I noticed that my delete button didn't always register and I tried to fix it. Now I have some better results but it's not enough. Does anybody know where can I buy a replacement button? (or a used keyboard, so I can get the button, anything that it's not expensive). I found this keyboard ( For MSI CX705 CR620 CR720 A6200 S6000 laptop keyboard US version P/N: V111922AK1-in Keyboards from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com). Are its buttons the same as the GT70 buttons?
3. Next of steelseries logo, above the sound jack, if I push the plastic, it doesn't feel solid, and I get a strange sound from the plastic. I will try to record a video if you didn't understand what am I talking about. If anybody did, is this normal?
After these problems, do you think I have to send my GT70 for RMA again? (I need the laptop for university work, so it is really difficult to give it for 2 weeks)
Thank you -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can't really get replacement keys for these keyboards (they are relatively low volume) so they do generally require a replacement.
-
Ok, can I use the buttons from the keyboard in the link? Don't they have the same buttons? Also, does anybody have any answer about my other questions?
EDIT: Here is a video for what I am saying in question 3: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14544438/CIMG0325.mp4 -

It is a different keyboard without backlighting so apart from not letting the light through they may not fit.
