Does this laptop support Optimus? It's not mentioned in the specs, so I'm leaning towards "no" but just looking for confirmation. Feedback from reseller or owner preferred. Thanks all!

Yes, it does.

Yeah, only asus and dual card machines dont use optimus.
-
Is that from personal experience? I ask because usually with XoticPC their specs will list a part as "GTX xxxm w/ Optimus" if Optimus is supported. The MSI GPU there is listed the same as on Asus G series laptops. I thought all MSI laptops supported Optimus, hence the confusion.

Generally, it's as Meaker said: dual card machines and Asus systems with dedicated graphics don't incorporate Optimus. This MSI does. -
What is the difference, beyond the aesthetics and the keyboard between the current barebone and the current 17 inch from MSI?
I looked at the specs on xoticpc and powernotebook and I could not find any. -

For the 17inch really the only difference is the length of warranty and the mentioned aesthetic differences. This year the differences were even less because the barebone got the aluminum palmrest and identical touchpad.
On the 15inch im not sure what changed for the 2013 model but the last pics i saw the branded vs barebone looked very different in pretty much every way .
So from a purely technical standpoint the Retail vs Barebone are identical.
1 year warranty vs 2 year standard warranty. Some people do not see the value in that while others do and or also want the look of the retail model plus full backlit color keyboard .
I guess depending on your budget or what you see the most value in is how to decide which will suit you. -
Currently all MSI Gaming laptop running Nvidia graphic card have optimus
