I am considering this 15.6" MSI unit and I am well aware that their guts are identical. But can someone just correct me if I am wrong & answer my questions :) :

    1. The 16F3 has exterior glossy plastic with the triangular design vs. lit MSI logo
    2. The 16F3 comes originally with non backlit keyboard, but there are resellers (Gentech, PowerNotebookthat.. except XoticPC, don't know why but will contact privately) offer the upgrade to StealSeries backlit keyboard
    3. What are the differences with the touch/button strip above keyboard ? Is there still the jet fan boost in 16F3 ? Is there still a dedicated button to toggle backlit keyboard like on GT60
    4. Both have the same speakers ? Dynaudio on both ?
    5. How different are the touch pads ? And how different are the leds below the touch pad ?
    6. Assuming the GT will be revised with the GTX 680m, will the 16F3 have it as well ?
    7. Any weight difference ? This guy said his 16F3 weights 5-6 lbs without battery avec 1 ODD & 2 HDDs

    Thanks in advance :)

    3. No.
    4. yes.
    5. barebone has always used a synaptics touch pad which is the best. Retail not always.
    6. Who knows?
    7. Not significantly.

Also retail has more vram, but this will not affect performance.

BTW this question has already been asked, a google search of the forum is usually the best way to find such threads. "16f3 retail differences notebookreview" into google would have got you your answer.

Thank you, so how would one turn on or off the backlit keyboard without the dedicated toggle, there doesn't seem to be any combination on the keyboard to do that

    1) yes
    2) Yes, the barebones are shipped to all of us without backlit keyboards, but we can upgrade/modify the SteelSeries for the 16F3
    3) The barebones 16F3 does not have turbo fan button. No button for the backlighting to be toggled on/off to my knowledge.
    4) Correct, both do have the DynAudio speakers.
    5) Same Synaptics touchpad, slightly different configuration with the buttons though. Same LED lights at the bottom for indicators.
    6) We won't know until the 680M is announced and MSI reveals their plans to us.

With battery, no hard drives, it weighs in at 6.95lbs.

The back-lighting is controlled through the software. Depending on your mood and desires, you can choose from more than 1,000 color combinations and five different scenario modes for the keyboard.

Also, the 16F3 does not support Nvidia Optimus, while the GT60 and GT70 do.

    Really? Where is that located?

That would make a massive difference between the motherboards, which is something MSI avoids.

The MSI 16F3 does support Optimus, as the OEM GT60 model does. (they share the same MB)
