Let me explain.
I think you get a standed 140W PSU with your laptop the power brick lead thing however i was wondering lets say i increase it to a bigger PSU will my laptop run better because of the increased wats ? in the PSU ?
I noticed someone said that they bought a new one from Ebay for 20 bucks and reported it cools the system better thus meaning it is a better quality PSU ?
I just wanted to clarify if this is true as i want to get my MSI GX 660R a new PSU to increase it so it does not have to worry about increase in WAT ETC.
And the cooling ?

No. The stock brick is built by Delta, a very reliable OEM and it should easily suffice. Merely increasing the power capacity of the brick does nothing. Your computer draws only as much power as it needs.

Incorrect information on their part. This is a myth.

Improving the cooling is the way to go. Add some ram-sinks to the GPU cooling plate. You will see a huge drop in temps. -
I changed my PSU to 180W because of overclocking. The stock 120W PSU gave up after 18 months of use with my previous lappy (OCed QX9300 and OCed nV9600M GT), so I bought the 180W one and I've been using it with my GX740 since the very beginning, especially that it draws more power than the previous lappy.
Adding RAM-sinks to GPU cooling plate is not possible in GX660, because of the construction of the cooling plate itself. Your best option for improved cooling is drilling some holes in the laptop's bottom cover. This will void Your warranty though, unless You have a spare cover. -
Even a quick/dirty ghetto mod like mine is not possible?

yours is not GX660.

I honestly dont know what all the fuss is with this laptop overheating.....
i downloaded MSI Afterburner last night as my laptop was running so cool i wasnt sure whether to trust the temps. the result?
After 3 hrs of Black Ops maxed out in 1080p online, the highest my gpu got was 65C, that was with a cooler, with the cooler and the fan booster on it was running at a steady 50C.
Just use a cooler and use the fan button when gaming, you will get no issues! -
GX660 doesn't overheat. It's the GX640/740...

Thank you very much
this has fully cleared up everything i wanted to know.
And yes the 660R AND 660 have no cooling issues the only ones i have seen with the most questions are the GX740 AND GX640.
Thanks a lot guys i will buy a new PSU as i want more memory and will be upgrading my CPU for when shogun 2 comes out.
Happy Christmas to all soon. -
