I would really like to know about your real life gaming performance. There is an ongoing debate about higher clocked Core 2 Duo Vs lower clocked Quad Cores Q9000.
Many reiterate that a 2.5 Ghz Core 2 Duo is better for gaming than a 2.0 Ghz Quad Core Q9000. Others say that you will suffer performance loss with a 2.0 Ghz Quad in many games because they are not optimised for Quad.
Has anyone played GTA IV on their Advent? How did other games perform. The reason why I am asking this is because I am trying to decide between a 2.4 - 2.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo and a 2.0 Ghz Quad Core in my next 15'' gaming laptop which will use a single GTX 260M GPU 1GB DDR3.
I hear this should be similar to the HD4850 512MB DDR3 that was included in the Advent 6555.
So do you Advent 6555 owners have any regrets in terms of gaming performance with your 2.0 Ghz Quad?

Well for starters, i love my Advent 6555, its the fastest machine ive ever had and its got a fantastic GPU even if the drivers are still immature.
As for the cores, i haven't ran into any games that demand much of single cores to be honest, but when multicore comes into play i haven't known if to struggle in anything, and battery life as well lasts 2:30 or so hours wifi+browsing which is very good, the Q9000 is very responsive 6mb Cache 1066mhz fsb.
I can run Farcry 2 DX10 in max detail without any problems, just the occasional stutter but no problem, after all the drivers as i say are immature.
The RAM cant fully be utilised due to a 32bit os however i think the remainder of the ram is shifted to the GPU as i now have a total of 3gb accesible RAM and 1.7GB ATI GPU Ram (which is nice).
Unreal + Bioshock, never played them before until i got the Advent, i love the intro and quality of Bioshock, fantastic, these both have multicore support.
Call Of Duty 5 Another Multicore game, no problem with the performance of this maxed out and AA 2-4 which also is really nice.
I will try get you some performance screens.
Think is with the Advent, i think its being discontinued so there real hard to find within The DSG store group now. -
The GT725-UK Quad Core version is due out this week according to laptopsdirect.co.uk
Judging by that and how it costs £1250 I think (rounded) it might be worth the extra £250. -
Yeah i think so as i recon the Turbo Mode OC ability is on there and that gives about a 15-20percent increase in cpu speed so i think that each core will operate at 2.35-2.4
And i think the bios will hoperfully be released for the Advent
Unless there is a new heat sink. -
I doubt advent will give the OC function, cos they didn't even implement the turbo button.
The only way is to use quad GT725's bios, flash it onto 6555. There won't be on the fly OC'ing, but you can at least enable it on the bios level. -
You could implement it into the system control tool (that eye at the bottom) that should work quite nicely.

Its just a Q9000 not QX, but i do enjoy the performance of it, and normally run it on power saver all the time, even when on ac.
Strange that its such a great laptop even on low power hehe. -
