    my laptop is core i7 720qm with hd 6990m (upgrade hd 5850m in 2011)

    Upgrade to gtx 970m works ? or new laptop ...


    Upgrade $300 ....new lap top $1100

    It depends whether you want to keep your exciting laptop or you want a new one. Your current laptop is more than 2 years old and the CPU is quite old, so I would buy a new laptop instead of buying GTX 970M which may be won't work properly in your laptop.

    I fear that your cpu is not fast enough, first mobile i7 are very low clocked so you will be cpu limited in many games.

    I would sell your current laptop and buy new. You can get a GT60 with 4710mq (ridiculous upgrade from what you have) 8gb ram, 1TB 7200 HD, 1080p matte IPS?, 970m 3GB, win 8.1, dynaudio speakers (these are great) for around $1475-$1500
