I was just wondering looking at the two models that the Core i7 and Core i5 models are exactly the same down to the last detail (Minus CPU & HDD) so I was wondering if they use the same motherboards for both models?

This would then lead someone to believe they would have the ability to stick in a Core i7 into the Core i5 model providing that bios will let us (Locked Bios FTL).

Has anyone attempted this before or is it in the works? I will wait for some responses and then I will go ahead and give it a try as a friend of mine uses the i7 laptop not the GX740 but the Asus models. Looking at the prices a 840QM i7 only cost $350 with shipping which I believe will be a great investment in the future.

That is just wicked, I remember with the Gateway FX series it was a huge question if we could do that, and when we found out it was probably possible the bios was locked.

This is wicked can I install the Core i7 Extreme Edition CPU's also?
