I had problems getting this machine to boot (no post), but was able to get it working with a replacement processor. I thought everything was going to be good from that point, but I've had lots of stability problems.

Usually, on first booting XP it would get to the desktop, and just as the hourglass was to disappear it would BSOD and restart. If I would boot in safe mode and then restart it would often start OK. Sometimes it would work great from that point for a while and then it would randomly BSOD and restart.

I tried the latest Intel chip set drivers, newer video drivers, all Windows updates, but nothing helped. Sometimes I would think I had fixed it because it would work great for a while, but then the crashes would return.

As part of my testing I ran 3DMark2k3. While I did get some full runs in, it would usually crash in the nature scene just as the camera rotates up from the water to focus on the turtle.

With the Battlefield 2 demo, it would often crash loading the animated splash screens or the map, but if it did load I could play indefinitely without a problem.

I ran Prime95 and got lots of errors. After trying a while running different tests to see if one or the other was better, I restarted and it wouldn't boot.

On trying to load Windows it hangs at the splash screen and doesn't do anything. If i try to boot into safe mode, it hangs at loading Mup.sys. I can't even reinstall Windows because it locks up booting off of the CD.

I ran Memtest and it locked up after 50 minutes with no errors. I tried again and it locked up after 20 minutes with no errors. I tried again and it ran fine for 24 hours with no errors.

I tried another hard drive and had the same results.

As I was typing this I tried booting again, and after several tries did manage to boot, and after acting really flaky for a while it worked OK for a little, had a BSOD and now it won't post again!

What should I do next???? I don't have any other laptop hardware that I can try.

if it is in warrenty take back, i had a Toshiba, and i instaed a progrma called Zoomtext and it restarted and just as the hour glass loaded it crashed. it did this everytime until we whipped the hard drive. assuming you got a computer with a warrenty take it back and get a new computer if not try a new graphics card, that was the problem with my toshiba(which a took to the dumpster 5 after a bought it). it could also be something that you have installed on it or a very nasty virus.

hope that helps, (if it is Dell, or Toshiba) i have heard of these problems before

Well, I think I've got it fixed.

I bought a stick of regular Kingston to replace the KVR variant I had, and it seems to work.
