    Hi there!

I am having a problem with the trackpad on my GT72 Dominator Pro (880m). It just stopped working. I have tried uninstalling the Synaptics Drivers in Programs. When I try to remove the device in the device manager I see the generic Microsoft driver and the driver for my gaming mouse but no Synaptics device. I even tried installing an older generic Synaptics diver and it would not install. Any advice other than a clean install?

Maybe when I do the upgrade to Win 10 this will resolve?

Might sound silly but did you accidentally turn it off with a F key?

Try Fn + F3. That turns on and off the trackpad (as long as the SCM utility is installed and working correctly). In the mouse settings in your control panel, I believe there is an option to disable the touchpad when a USB mouse is plugged in. Maybe that got checked, since you mentioned you are using a mouse it could be causing issues.

    Try this driver here.

I installed the driver above and it seems to install. The trackpad still does not work. When I do into the Mouse Properties in the Controll Panel I get the message that the system can not communicate with the Synaptics Driver and prompts me to remove it....

What's your current BIOS & EC version?
Does the touchpad work at all? What if you remove the driver?
Also, how about touchpad disable function? FN + F3.

Thetouchpad does not work at all. No buttons, no touchpad, nothing. I uninstalled the drivers and it still doesn't work.

    Tried fn F3 and nothing.

As for BIOS...never updated from initial purchase (when the machine just came out). Not sure where to check version.

On a side comment...I was contemplating doing a full restore, but of course I don't have all the software that comes with the laptop. When i search MSI's site to look for the drivers and the like I get the references to the new models but nothing for the older ones...if you could point me there just in case I go the reinstall route it would be most helpful...just don't want to go that far :-(

Restart the PC, and press F3 key and see if MSI Recovery can be launched or not.

Hitting f3 does bring me to what looks like the windows restore menu. I can try that...however if I go into the restore from within windows I get a list of things that will not be reinstalled including the software preinstalled on the machine. When I do this from the f3 menu I don't get a list so I didn't want to do the reset without bing able o get a copy of all the software first....

Ok good, if you do refresh, then it works on the OS and you don't lose any of your user data.
But if you do reset, then the whole thing gets format and reinstalled, pretty much, and data will be gone.

Are all the MSI provided packages in the restore partition? Is there a way to check to make sure?

Yes, if you go to disk management then you can look it up.
For users that upgraded the OS to Win10 the recovery partition becomes reduced, so it's best to create the ISO files or media prior to perform the upgrade.
