    Hey everyone,

I've just bought a MSI gx640 and for the moment I'm very happy with my choice. Something is bugging me though: I can't get the resolution to go to 1650x1050 like it's specified. For some reason, both Windows and Catalyst tell me that the native resolution is 1200x800 and I can't go any higher.

Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this?

tl;dr: Resolution maxed at 1200x800, can't make it go any higher. Why?

Try uninstalling your drivers, clean them out with Driver Sweeper then install the latest drivers from the MSI website for your gx640.

The 5850 drivers I mean, don't mess with other ones yet.

I'm having a similar problem when connecting an external VGA monitor, saying that its a NON generic pnp. It randomly stopped responding. Any other one of my laptops recognizes it, however your issue is most likely a driver issue. I still haven't figured mine out.

I tried reinstalling using the drivers in the CD and it didn't work... Should I try again with the ones in the AMD site or the MSI site?

By the way, thank you in advance for your help :)

I tried with all three and it didn't work. I'm starting to wonder if it's not just my display that's 1280x800...

The box says it's a LED Panel: 15,4'' WXGA(Glare Type).

Does that give any info as to the resolution of my display?

Did a little research and found out this specific item came with a worse display but with a better processor for some reason. What kind of pisses me off is that it was advertised as a better display computer, and I would rather have that. I'll see what I can do.

Anyways thanks a lot guys for your help :)

lol I would rather get a lower native res.

    Better FPS in games :)

    But yeah WXGA means 1280x800.
