    Hey everyone,

I've been having issues with my GT70 2PE for quite a while now and recently stumbled upon this great community. The issue I'm having is even with gpu and cpu temps in the 70s and around 50% usage I get massive 1 second frame drops. Fps will drop from 60 to 10 frames for a second or two. I've tried reinstalling and updating nvidia drivers, I've wiped the machine and set up from scratch. Nothing seems to help. I'm here to see if anyone could nudge me in the right direction on how to resolve my issue. Thanks

Is your battery connected to the laptop? Are you using an SSD+HDD combo? Are you running games full screen or windowed?

Havie you tried running the test, with HWmonitor running in the background? I ask because I had an issue with GT60 due to the HDD. After a certain amount of time, the HDD would go to a low power state, causing a 1 second freeze of sorts, then it would resume operation.

Those hiccups in performance were supper annoying and we found out it was the HDD. The trick was to keep the HDD busy alive. There was a program to modify its settings so that it never went to sleep. In my case I only keep HWmonitor open when gaming and that keeps the HDD alive, polling its temp.

    Hi and welcome, GRIZZYY!

What games are you experiencing this in? Do you notice the same kind of behavior in 3D tests (Unigine: Heaven, Firestrike, etc.)?

Wow I wonder if you're onto something here. Ive suspected for a while that it was hard drive related since the issue doesn't seem as bad for games on ssd

I've noticed it mostly on low demanding games such as csgo, dota, and insurgency. I tried bench marking last night to see if I could reproduce the issue. I got the gpu drops but system was pretty hot so nothing conclusive. I'll post screen shot later of afterburner results

Try to use HWmonitor, MSI Afterburner and intel XTU to log a period of time where it happens, as well as monitor temps, clocks and % utilization.

Also... I suggest you update the killer wifi card in case this issue is with a game that has an online component. I would also suggest to install only the driver and not the killer network manager program.

Run those 3 apps all at once or try one or the other. Also I wiped the pc and grabbed the drivers from scratch like a year ago. I'll look into whether I have the killer network manager program or the driver. I'm pretty sure I could only get the program to work for w.e reason

You can run all those three simultaneously. MSI Afterburner will monitor your GPU, Intel XTU your CPU and HWmonitor in general your min, max and current temps and utilization etc.

I'm wondering if I've screwed everything up by trying so many different fixes. I reinstalled windows and drivers from scratch and MSI had me update bios. Should I proceed with my laptop in current state or start fresh. And if i should start fresh what would be the best way to go about that

Hmm I say keep going as you are. Unless you are experiencing several issues. There is nothing wrong with a fresh install as long as you have your software updated.

@GRIZZYY - You mentioned the laptop feeling warm. Maybe I missed it, but did you ever record your temps (i.e. are you experiencing thermal throttling)?

I don't think you need to resort to a format + reload of Windows just yet, either.
