Hello all. This time out at work offshore I started looking for a new gaming laptop and seen several MSI models that I liked. I am now reading though the threads and it will take me a while to go though them all or at least most of them. I am leaning more toward the GS60 or GS70 models as I need something lighter weight for the helicopter going to work as they have a luggage weight limit. With the kids at home gaming at work is about the only time I really get to game. I have just got SKYRIM and have been playing it, but there is no telling what I may pick up after that. For that reason I am still looking to see what is released from all makers with the 8xxM graphics.

What are your favorite MSI models and why? Thanks.

Look elsewhere. I've owned several MSI laptops and each have been nothing but a pain. Horrendous build quality, and horrendous reliability, and horrendous customer support. They'll try to blame anything and everything on you and refuse you warranty work.

For your needs of the light weight and gaming capabilities the GS series are probably going to be your best bang for your buck.
All the new models are still Pre Orders though. We're all waiting to get our hands on them to test them out. Theres been a lot of interest in the GS60, since its a 15.6" and they only made 17.3" for last years GS line. If you dont need to computer right away I'd wait for some feedback on it.

I have a MSI 1651 model and it has been going good for the past five years.

Come on, let's not even argue build quality and reliability compared with other brands. This forum is plagued with issues. I thought it was an exception rather than the rule as well until I purchased their laptops.

That is what I am here asking about, what models to check out, and what models to avoid. I can wait longer, but was wanting one before I head back to work in about 3 more weeks. But if waiting another month or two means a better machine, I will just have to wait it out. Still not even sure what brand I will get, but MSI is one I am considering.

I sort of agree with you. The quality is not the best despite how they look first-hand or in review videos. The MSi repair center in Western Canada is terrible. I had a problem with my 780M graphics chip and not only did they not fix it, but it took about 6 weeks to get the laptop back to me and didn't even bother to put my custom AC wireless card back in or the screws on the bottom of the laptop! They sent those to me eventually after recognizing their mistake. I had to get it sent to the repair center in Ontario where they replaced my brand new laptop with a refurbished model that works at least....

I would look elsewhere for a laptop such as ASUS or Alienware (which might be too bulky for you). If you're not going to be playing high-end games such as Crysis 3 for 10 hours straight, look for something that has a 765M graphics chip or lower. You could also try Razer but their laptops are even more overpriced than Alienware. For the same amount of money, you are getting about half the performance as MSi or Asus.

Clevo, Gigabyte, and ibuypower are also companies you might want to look at.
