    Hey, I plan on buying an MSI G735 this Christmas off of Newegg. I've never really heard of MSI until I came here and I've talked to one person who has heard of them. I understand they are a international brand. I was just wondering if they're service is good and they're trustworthy. I just don't want to spend 1k on this notebook and then need help and not be able to reach any support from them in the U.S. Please help with opinions thanks.

    yes, MSI is a very good company, albeit not very recognized in the US. and with support, its behind their products just like dell, hp, and sony. i dont see anything wrong with going for an MSI.

    by the way, whats the link for it?

    I currently have a MSI-1651. I have not had any problems yet where I had to go to MSI directly (I have a PNB 3-year warranty, so I talked to them). But when I do, I'll let you know. The notebook quality itself is high, though I wish it had better battery life.

    What's the battery life on it like? Even though it won't affect me very much, I play with my notebook plugged in 99 percent of the time. The size/cell of the battery wouldn't matter if it was plugged in right?

    When using AC power you don't even need to have battery in your laptop. The number of cells is an indication of how long can your battery retains its charge, i.e. the more cells the more time your battery will power your laptop.

    The real buy for the MSI is the GT725.

    I have had many MSI motherboards but I have not had any of their laptops but from the price/performance standpoint, I think they are real good buy.

    :)

    I get around 2hr and 10 minutes average (but upon realizing that I had Live Mesh running while on battery (which pushing CPU to a constant 100%) turned that off and get an average of around 2hr and 30minutes.) This is all using Windows Vista Ultimate (will try it on Windows 7 if I get the time.).

    I can't speak for service or warranty but as somebody who just bought a GX710 laptop by MSI from NewEgg this week I thought I might address a few things I've noticed. First, as far as build quality goes, the laptop isn't near up to the standards of Dell. I had a Dell XPS m1210 prior to this and the the build quality was excellent. Of course the Nvidia graphics died and Dell told me too bad so go figure. But the MSI notebook I bought just looks... cheap. You can see it in the way the USB ports look and how they sit skewed in the black plastic chassis. Or the cheap way they glue on plastic covers over unused ports. There was a protective covering on the lid that was adhered so tightly that when I pulled it off it removed the plastic logo and now I'm going to have to find some glue or silicon to put it back on. The DVD door is cheaply made and the button sticks out enough so that whenever you inadvertently touch it the door ejects and then it takes two or three tries to get it to latch. And the glossy black finish looks great but after you've used the laptop for a few minutes you realize every fingerprint shows up.
    And don't get me started on the horrible touchpad. See my post from today about that abomination. If you plan to use your laptop for any kind of writing using the touchpad stay away from MSI.
    However there are things about the laptop that are nice. The screen is big and beautiful and at least it doesn't have a Nvidia graphics card that's guaranteed to fail. And most of all, despite the flaws, I'm going to keep it because it's a good deal and I can overlook the problems.

    @culthuu,

    Thanks for sharing. This really put a damper on my enthusiasm about the new MSI GT725. I had hoped the MSI quality is better than the Gateway FX7805 now on sale at select BB. The CT BB closest to me don't have the Gateway yet but more are supposed to be coming.

    Still wondering how the quality will compare since the Gateway build quality also have problems.

    Hopefully someone else with this specific notebook can share their experience. Tend to like and see many people's opinions just in case someone got a defective or less than stellar unit.

    it might help if you could post some clear pictures of the parts that are less than properly built so that we could all see what you are describing.
