Well since I still haven't seen anyone else post an official 2013 GE70 Owners Lounge, I thought I would.

So far I am extremely happy with the laptop. I have been following the GE60 thread and was a little nervous about some of the issues being discussed. But so far, I do not seem to have any of those problems with my GE70. It seems to stay a lot cooler, even when gaming. When I have looked at Core Temp during games, the max the processor has reached is 70 to 75 degrees. The palm rest stays fairly nice, and the exhaust fan works great (without getting too loud). I am really impressed with the 1080p screen which looks fantastic, and the keyboard feels great. The performance of the new haswell i7 with the 765m is also quite impressive. All the games I have tried so far have run nicely on Very High to Max settings. As for the battery life, when I have it on eco mode browsing the internet or doing other small tasks, I get about 3 to 3.5 hours, which I am more than content with for a 17 inch. The only complaint I have really come across is that the Blu-ray drive cover feels a little bit loose. But that is just getting a little picky.

Anyways here is some specs and pictures of the box, and of the laptop itself when I unpacked it. Hopefully some other new GE70 owners will come this way to discuss this laptop as well!

    Specs: GE70 20E-002US

    OS: Windows 8
    CPU: Core i7 4700MQ @ 2.4 GHZ
Screen: 17.3 diagonal 1920*1080 matte display
Memory: 8 GB DDR3, 1600 MHZ. Memory is 1 8GB DIMM, one unfilled slot
Optical: 6x Blu-ray reader and DVD Super Multi
HDD: 750 GB at 7200 RPM
    VRAM: 2 GB DDR5 Nvidia 765m
    Dimensions: 16.5"x10.6"x1.5"
    Weight: 5.95 lbs (with battery)

First of all sorry for my bad English. I have it since a week ago and I was also following the GE60 Lounge. Some of the things said can be true, but not agree with all. My last laptop was a Dell L702X which I owned for a year and a half. That was perfect for me, but for the Nvidia GT555M. Of course, the GE70 gets hot when Gaming but that was what I expected of a laptop like this. I have it on Cooler Master U3 with its 3 fans pointing to critical points. Can´t complaint. The only thing that disappointed me was the sound system. Compared to my ex-Dell it sounds like an old radio. I use to play with Headsets so thats not a problem to me. I also use a Logitech G13 keyboard, so I don´t touch the palm rest. I guess those who carry laptops are right to complain about the battery life. Mine is always stuck on me desktop. So far all I can say is a good laptop for my needs. Sure there will be better ones, but this is the one I need. Forgot to say I installed a M500 Crucial mSATA 120 Gb for W8. System boots in 10 sec.

Glad to hear you are not experiencing any of the issues we are over in GE60 central. I have to say I'm confused at how you're getting such good battery life from it [I have a GE60]. Could you see how many mAh/Wh your specific battery has? You can check with CPUID Hardware Monitor.

Yeah I find it strange how good I am getting with the battery life as well. I just checked it and it's definitely the same: 49Wh. And as of right now with 57% windows says I have 2 hours left...

Are you serious? That is way better than GE60. That would be 3.5 hours battery life. :O

Can you do a full test?
Charge it to full and just surf web and see how long it last. Then do the same and see how long it last for gaming.

    Thank you!

I guess if you installed it that means that installing an msata card yourself does not void the warranty?

I bought the laptop and the msata at the same time, so I accepted the risk of void warranty since the beggining. I think this laptop deserves an ssd or msata, instead of a HDD. However I´ve read in the Official MSI GE60 Owner´s Lounge that breaking the stick doesn´t void warranty. Anyway, true or not that was something that I knew I had to do it.

Many people who have called MSI themselves will tell you that sticker is more of a warning that if you damage anything while tinkering your warranty will be void. Adding an SSD is certainly not one of them unless you used a jackhammer and chainsaw to install it..

Installing a msata on it is as simple as open the bottom lid. Stick it in, screw it down. Close the lid.

    Done.

Yes im also looking for more comments about this model. Considering the heating issues in the ge60 im wondering if the larger chassis would show sognificant improvements.

Anyone know how to get the backlight on the keyboard working?
My cousin bought the 2OE, but is unable to turn it on.
Pressing the backlight button at the top left of the keyboard does nothing.
    Are there any drivers needed?

Agree too. At first I installed W7 and it also worked, so there must be something wrong. There is no specific driver for it.
My GPU´s temperatures are 44 º C in idle and 80º C max playing BF3 in High (MSI Afterburner temp utility)

Yes, you can on ultra. I´ve just tried it. I´ve never played on ultra any game till now.
    BF3 on Ultra (1920x1080) 30-40 FPS
    BF3 on High (1920x1080) 50-60 FPS

Now I´m installing other games to see how performs.

Yes, i've tested the GTX675m and Crysis 3 runs not awesome but acceptable at high settings with 1920X1080 resolution. FPS is about 25-40 fps.

Arma II Operation Arrowhead on "Very High" runs great 30-40 FPS. On "High" is 40-50.
Company of Heroes 2 set to the Highest quality is unplayable (unless for me): 15-20 FPS. If you leave settings by default is 60-65 FPS.
    (Res. is 1920x1080)

As you know, Nvidia GTX700M cards are still working on an old version of NVIDIA driver (311.48). So far there is no other driver release, so we have to wait until new drivers come. In fact, once COH2 is launched a window warns you about how old your drivers are. I really hope this will be fix in a future. Visit Nvidia fórums for more information. Despite of that I must say game looks awesome with default settings. These are: 1920x1080, Physics: Highest, and all the rest in lowest (snow quality, AA, textures...) BUT I have just discovered that setting Textures to High makes no difference in FPS number: it remains 60 FPS. So It maybe a driver issue or even this game is still quite new. Anyway this game looks awesome at defaults. Don´t be afraid with experimenting other settings since temps and FPS remains the same.

nice.. i really don't mind the external temperature.. what i was concerned about are throttling issues. did you manage to notice some? that was the reason why I have decided now to buy a new notebook since the one I am using now has major throttling issues. Do you mind to post some recorded temps or the CPU/GPU when you do have the time.. :D

Today was added new review from Czech people, they compared GE60 and GE70, and they sad that GE70 is about 5-10°C cooler than GE60 (under high usage) and with Turbo Fan its 5°C more cooler.

    From their review(GE70):
    ______________________
    Room temp: 24°C
    Without turbofan:
    Idle temp: 31-36°C
    Youtube/Webbrowsing: 36-47°C
    Gaming: 74-90°C
    With turbofan:
    Gaming: 74-86°C
    ______________________
    Battery life is almost same.
I am pretty sure that I'll buy this instead of GE60 :)
And I think if I'll repaste it than it will be maybe cooler by next 5°C.

    90C is pretty much :/

Now I am very afraid of new thing - downgrading to Win 7.

    msi.com/product/nb/GE70-2OE.html#downloads
Here is everything only for Windows 8. Flashing bios is only possiable from windows 8 if I am correct?

I am afraid this would happen:

90 is pretty much? What do you want from gaming laptop? And with only 1 fan? Look at GE60 model, temperatures are somewhere 95+ ... i think 90 is pretty good temp for laptop like this: thin, one fan, relatively light...

Why is everybody downgrading ? Windows 8 is perfect! As i was looking on the other forums, these drivers are working also on Win 7, but i cant confirm it.

Hmm...regards the view angle...Win 8 does not stink in any of its features, and i can say it's more stable and faster than Win 7...
If you just miss the old start button, you can simply download it, there are already many types which you can use..

Anyways I would like to see this laptop with bigger battery + dual fan feature + full colored backlit keyboard in 2014 version... it will be really amazing and i would be pretty sure that this will be my next laptop

I did use old start button but it is still annoying closing programs. If I am correct you can not close program in top right corner with X. There is no X anymore.
And changing windows...there is no dock on the bottom. You have to go in the top left corner everytime. That is really annoying to me.

    Good day gentlemen,

I accidentally posted this in the GT thread but I got redirected here, so I hope you can help me out.

I've only recently purchased an Msi GE70 and I'm still getting used to it. I've bought an msata SSD and just finished reinstalling windows and all the drivers. There's one thing that's bugging me though; the GE70 has 4 speakers, correct? When I open the Realtek HD software, however, the only option I have is STEREO, not Quadrophonic. I've been googling for about 20 minutes but it's very hard to find any specific information about this issue, so I thought I'd ask you guys. I've installed the THX TruStudio, though I don't suppose that has anything to do with it.
Any idea what's up and what I can do to fix it?

i have placed and order for msi-ge70 and should be delivered by wednesday
    my config is
    graphics- nvidia 765 gtx
    processor- i7-4700 intel-haswell @ 2.4~3.4
    ram - 8GB @ 2133 (Overclocked)
SSD - 2 SSDs of Crucial (256 GB each) (Regular)
Cooling - IC Diamond Thermal Compound

i am really concerned about the batery life and cooling
since i have always been a desktop user who is online on WoW for 6 to 8 hrs straight on raid nights
laptop's batery life makes me sad, although in future (after 2/3 months) ill be geting a additional batery for my laptop
as i am not a fan of charging the laptop at the same time while i am playing and spoiling the battery
ill be keeping both batterys charged up for occasions, i wanted to know the following if someone can answer it

1] what is the battery life during full gaming and during regular use
i saw in many forums/reviews and i got mixed answers
i am expecting 2 hrs for gaming and 3 hrs for regular use (optimistic)

2] will using two bateries harm my laptop hardware due to heat generated over the hours
as ill be using the second one after the first

3] how affective is the IC Diamond Thermal Compound
