Well I don't know where your getting at, but MSI should rectify this problem, as there is no option anywhere to solve it, and yet my ASUS laptop (which also used Nvidia) handled other games perfectly and QuakeLive was at a solid FPS
Now tell me who's at fault? who am I to blame, this problem is literally starting to be non fixable.
I'm running out of options, but as of right now, MSI has caused me to stop playing the game I love the most.

I also returned mine.

Other than the problem I have with QuakeLive, it's by far the best laptop I've ever used, while playing battlefield 3 or starcraft 2, it gets a little hot, but by no means uncomfortable, and I play with it sitting on my lap in bed, the keyboard is so beautiful to use, and the FHD screen is bliss.
I just hope they form a fix for my switchable gpu problem, but otherwise I'd recommend this laptop to anyone , bought from affordablelaptops.com -

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Quake live is just one of those programs that hate optimus IIRC, there is not much you can do.
-
^^^ See what I mean? Unfortunately I can't give Meaker any more rep until I spread some around. Go Meaker. We're not worthy!
I did some googling though, just because I hate unsolved problems. I am not an MSI expert, so take this as you will. This is at least a 3 year old problem that has existed as long as optimus and QuakeLive. There has never been a fix and it is in fact nVidia's fault, not any of the manufacturers that use their cards. From what I saw, some drivers have worked over the years and some have not. If you read up a bunch, you might try finding the most recent drivers that worked well with the game and giving those a shot. -
If you have one, try connecting your laptop to an external lcd. Try playing QuakeLive on the external lcd, I remember with my eeepc 1215N that playing through an external lcd through the HDMI port is directly through the GTX card and fixes some problems that Optimus can occasionally cause.

ok so i really want to get this laptop, does anyone know of a reseller that offers an amd gpu since Nvidia always seems to have problems with their drivers.... also who on here has a GE60 or in particular the GE60 2oc 003 and does not regret buying it

Hello. Im planning on buying this laptop and there's one thing i'd like to know. Is it possible to replace the ODD for a 2.5" HDD? I've got an unused 2'5SSD i'd like to use on this PC while maintaining the HDD as storage.
-
I've just bought it, I gotta agree with others it gets hot when you play (skyrocketed at 95° easy on BF3) and it is pretty loud. (HDD makes the most noise). Also the touchpad texture is ing you can't even gliss on it so don't ever plan on using it even for simple tasks. Battery is 2hours30min t low settings.

New beta drivers were released for the GPU July 30th. They bumped up my 3dmark 11 score 2.5% and removed some microstuttering from the previous beta release.
-
Also, make sure to note in the first few pages that the people getting REALLY bad temps got theirs factory pasted from Newegg. MSI had a problem with their assembly where the heatsinks for the GE40 and 60 were being pasted on the setting for the GE70, which caused the machine to overpaste as the depth of the unit is slightly different. Those of us who ordered ours repasted by the reseller are getting significantly lower temps. -
-
Also is it normal my CPU gets 95c in gaming ? -
-
Sorry for the lateness of this post. The 6600 mAh battery looked fine, but it didn't work. Waste of 60 bucks

The MSI GE60 0ND-256US I bought before the newer versions rolled out (GTX660M and base 2.4GHz) was able to play BioShock Infinite on "High" without lag or artifacts. But, obviously due to the comparatively weaker cooling solution compared to dual-vent laptops (and also the smaller air-intake slits on the backside), it got quite warm even with the TurboBoost on. That said, I've always chalked it up to the fact I traded off a better cooling solution for a lighter and more mobile, yet graphically-capable entry-level gaming computer. -
Youtube or any other sites that runs on Adobe flash video is quite hard on systems. That's why most mobile phones used not to allow. Now you had more than ten taps of such sites open. Oh, yes, do expect the fans to spin up.
P.S. Now mobiles phones do allow them since they've gotten fast enough. -

I'm looking into getting the GE60 and was wondering how it would do on the FFXIV benchmark as it would be one of the games i would be wanting to run on it
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Official Benchmark (Character Creation) it is a big benchmark weighing in at over 2Gb as it also doubles as a character creator, just wondering what the score is for maximum setting and again at laptop high.
thanks in advance. -

Any other benchmarks people want, feel free to PM me. It may seem like everyone on this forum is only interested in ignoring you so they can talk about the same thing for 80 pages, but some of us will answer your questions because we love knowing answers. -
Noticed that Xotic PC is carrying the 2OE-073 now too. All I see that's different is the default HDD is 1TB now. Anyone know if there's any other differences?

So I have been using my GE60 for a little over a month and I absolutely love it - I added an 256 GB SSD and this already amazing computer runs even better with it - would definitely recommend the upgrade to anyone.
Now the only problem I am having, and hopefully someone on here can help me out -
Idk if it was from when I reinstalled windows or what, but I the Optimus doesnt seem to ever be using integrated graphics. It wouldnt be a big deal usually - but I am about to start school and am going to need to take the laptop with me sometimes (I'm hoping there is a way to get the integrated graphics to work when I am on battery.
The Power Button light has been orange for about a month. That can't be right. -
-
Also, make sure the "preferred graphics processor" under "Manage 3D Settings" in the nvidia control panel is set to "auto-select". -
Hi guys, I was looking for a decent gaming laptop that I could also use for school (typing up papers/research). I also am looking for a laptop that has a high build quality and will last for a long time because I am not interested in buying another computer in 2-3 years. I won't be doing much hardcore gaming, but I am looking for a machine that is versatile/well built. I am leaning towards the MSI GE60 2OE-003US. I also have the Lenovo y500/y510p in mind. I really want to get a versatile computer that will be worth the money and last a long time.
I would really appreciate a reply because I am looking to order within the next week.
Thanks!
Nick
Edit: what is battery life for surfing? -
MSI GE60 2OE battery life is around 3:00-4:00 but it really depends on what you do. (Surfing but surfing what) -
anybody has got an ODD caddy isntalled? which height should i choose it? Theres of 9.5mm or 12.7mm

So i've read through this thread from start to finish, loads of information but it does have me worried about the temps and the battery life as I often have 3 hour lectures. Do the new drivers help push up the battery life to about the 3.5 hour mark that people have been reporting? has the initial batch of poorly applied thermal compounds been fixed? As i'm getting a bursary to pay for it I can't afford to open and fix myself and having to RMA it will mean i'll be without a computer for school so feedback would be great.
-
Battery life varies depending on screen brightness and what you're doing on the laptop. I'd say you could manage 3 hours well with brightness at 40-50% and just doing notetaking. -
-
hey im planning on buying the ge60 with gtx 765m from xoticpc. how are the temps.do you think it runs too hot when gaming and can you game for extended periods?
-
I have another question. How long would people say the GE60 2OE would last under these conditions:
1. Laptop remains cool
2. Only occasional gaming
3. Taking good care of the laptop
I just wanted to know because I dont feel like buying another laptop in 3 years
Also, is the graphics card replaceable in the GE 60? -
-
I had the GE70 and it barely lasted a year. Not a great experience in terms longevity and especially the build quality
-
Also would you recommend a decent gaming computer that has is decent in terms of longevity and build quality (around the $1,200 pricepoint; I also am hoping not to end up getting a Mac)
Edit: I am now looking at the Lenovo y510p because it gets excellent reviews on build quality. Does anyone know if you can switch between integrated and dedicated graphics like you can on the GE60? -
It's hillarious how some people expect a gaming laptop to have long battery life, stay cool under load, and last forever without paying a premium.
If you guys are so worried, pay an extra $100-$200 and get a GT series LOL. -
Going above the CAD$1200 is not an option for me because the laptop is being bought as a bursary, I think everyone is aware the battery life while gaming is going to be poor however many people will be using the laptop for school and required decent battery life to take notes in class. People are worried that the laptop will get too hot have BSOD issues or cause physical injury from getting too hot its acceptable that it will be hotter under load but so hot it could cook and egg isn't going to help the laptops life span.

Get an ultrabook lol
