Anyone have any idea when the 042US model is actually going to be available? My newegg order got voided (probably because their claim that the 006US model was available was wrong) and now I need a damn laptop.

I use mostly wi-fi. Which wireless card is the best?
Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + Bluetooth (SKU - X8R002)
Intel® Advanced-N 6235 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth (SKU - X8R105) ( + 30 )
Intel® Advanced-N 6205 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module (SKU - X8R103) ( + 35 )
Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1102 (2x2) (SKU - X8R051) ( + 40 )
Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 (3x3) (SKU - X8R052) ( + 49 )
Intel® Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module (Includes 3rd Antenna) (SKU - X8R108) ( + 69 )
Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 (3x3) (Includes 3rd Antenna) (SKU - X8R053) ( + 89 )
This Acer laptop that I'm currently using has the Intel Advance N 6205, and I'm not impressed - but maybe the main problem is the crappy At&t internet though.
And, all over the internet the Bigfoot cards have a bad reputation.
What card is the best? And which card will you guys get with your GE60? -

been checking out this forums and for this laptop for reviews but I have yet to find a "solid" review of the laptop so far. Anyone have any bad concerns with this laptop? Really have to replace my old HP HDX16 laptop.
Going to get one from Xotic/Gentech with the IC compound upgrade. Any insights/changes I need to do? I don't wanna spend so much "optional" upgrades to the laptop. -
Could someone with the MSI GE60 with i5-3210m processor check the time it takes to run SuperPI 1M?
You can download SuperPI from here:
Download Super PI 1.5 XS | PUTME

I have a few inquiries about it, if you have the time and interest. One, how do you feel the keyboard/wrist temps are? Two, fan audibility during idle and during standard gaming?
As CeeeeFour inquired previously, I'm also curious as to whether or not activating the 650M disables the CPU's turbo function. That's one of the things that turned me off of the Sager. -
I was originally planning to get a Sager NP9150, but as I would need the laptop for college I decided to go with something a bit thinner and lighter, so the GE60 seems like a good compromise between speed and portability.
However could someone who has the laptop already try to measure battery life with Optimus activated please as battery life is very important for me as well.
I was also looking at external GPU setups and I know it requires the laptop to have either an ExpressCard slot or mPCIe slots. As far as I know the GE60 doesn't have an ExpressCard slot, so could someone please check how many mPCIe slots the laptop has and how many of them are free (I believe it can be checked in the Device Manager)?
Maybe link1313, include these in your review. I'd be very grateful if someone could help me with these.

i've had mine for a little over a week and i can offer some feedback:
temps are very cool. i've used my mother's old dell before and that gets hot. this on the other hand can get a bit noticeably warm but not uncomfortably so.
the screen is fantastic and has great viewing angles.
the touch pad doesn't have a sensitivity level high enough to not feel sluggish. i use a mouse anyway so this doesn't bother me.
they keyboard is ing solid and feels awesome. sometimes if you hit the edge of a key or press too softly it won't register though. i've missed a couple of strokes but nothing major. i think the weirdest key is the spacebar which definitely has a dead zone on the right side, about a finger in width. not necessarily a deal breaker to me. the 'o' key used to have a weird clicking sound but i pressed on the key a bit and now it stopped. these are mostly nitpicks.
overall i think it's a great value for what it offers. -

The 660M version really has me interested, anyone know if the GPU is soldered to the MOBO on these laptops?
Things I would like to know before ordering:
Fan noise under load?
Temps at idle and full load?
And as others have mentioned if turbo works for the GPU and isn't throttled like with other laptops?
Battery life?
How big is the power brick?( stupid, but i need to know)
This laptop really looks nice and with the thin chasis and powerful GPU, just wish it had a backlit keaboard, oh yea post some pics guys we need to see what this bad boy looks like in real life.
Thanks -

Yes it is soldered.
-
ge70. Is it have free space and sata port to add second hard drive?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, its the same motherboard as the GE60.
-
Quick question:
Does the GE60 have room for a mSATA SSD and the original HDD?
And can you get to the mSATA port without taking the whole computer apart and voiding the warranty? -
can you get to it without voiding warranty? = no -
Does anyone have any idea when the GE70 will be available in the americas?
I want to be able to bring one to dreamhack this month, but it would need to be bought soon!
I honestly can not find any information ANYWHERE on the GE70! -
Nobody, as far as I know, has any idea when the GE60 or GE70 will actually be made available, although I have heard that it will be this week.
-
-
Hi, you're incorrect! you should take a look! its not available on ANY of those websites.
-
Well i got on customer support with Xoticpc and they said they are expecting them mid to late june. unfortunate!
-
-
-
Yeah!, im saddened because this is the perfect pc for me to take to dreamhack. Im looking into the Asus G75VW-RS72 or the Sager NP9170 as alternatives.

I apologize for the blurriness but here is the insides of my whitebrand GE60:

For those of your concerned if there was a free mSATA port, you don't need to worry anymore.
Please don't mind the memory brand type and other labels/stickers as this is a whitebrand version and the MSI version is likely a touch different. -
What does whitebrand mean?
-
Basically a debranded model so that retailers can put their own logo and model number to sell it as they're own. It's essentially the same though. Even system ID software identify the mobo as MSI.
-
Some good news - I just got a call back from MSI's marketing team that I've been calling for a while with no response.
MSI GE60-042US is starting to ship this week and should be available at places like J&R, Amazon, and Newegg in the next few days or early next week.
Don't know if it's going to take any longer for reseller's but at least we know it's sooner than later!
Also for any owners of the 06US - what can I expect in terms of build quality ie. keyboard/screen flex, the hinge connecting screen to base, etc. -
This laptop has an amazing screen, the scrolling software is amazing, laptop barely gets hot and performance is amazing as well but it has one huge flaw. That's the build quality. The palmrests plastic is too thin and with enough pressure they creak. The screen also creaks when moving it. I ended up returning it to newegg.ca and I wouldn't recommend it.
-
First off, I thank all of you for your opinions and investigations into the detailed aspects of several laptops. I've been reading through threads on this site for a few days now, and this is exactly the type of information a person needs to make an informed laptop purchase over the internet.
I was infatuated with the new Samsung Series 7 line, but was appalled to learn that the screen was crap (exception was the 17.3", but I like smaller laptops). Granted, there isn't much information for these new GE60 models, but after reading through here (in combination with other research), I pulled the trigger and purchased the GE60 042US model from Amazon (no, it isn't in stock - but I'm in line for the next shipment now). It's pretty exciting.
I'm upgrading from a 2010 Samsung R480 (a solid machine!). So again, to those contributing, I give you my thanks! -
@uddinf3 sorry to hear about the palmrests plastic being too thin and "creaking". Where exactly were you pressing down? I haven't had any issues or I would have returned my laptop in a heartbeat as well.
I agree with the screen flex and screen creaking when opening it (the 2nd "issue" is because the hinges are so stiff).
@smell_dawg I've seen the samsung 7 series and the ge60 has a better screen for sure. The 7 series has some crazy screen flex due to its bezel being like only 1mm thick lol
-
Stiff hinges should soften up after a month or 2 though, right?
-
Could someone comment on this Amazon review?
-
Put in my amazon order today. Hopefully it'll ship early next week if the MSI rep was being straight with me.
-
If you are concerned about the anti-glare treatment, xoticpc will let you replace it with a different screen.

Is the GPU on this sytem upgradeable/MXM or is soldered?
-
It's soldered.

Anyone know if the GE60 has Intel WiDi?

Hey guys I'm thinking of getting an MSI GE60 for college next year. I decided it over the Sager NP9130 (too heavy) but do have a question. I know it's cover and bezel and area around the keyboard is made of glossy plastic, which I abhor because of it's fingerprint-magnet tendencies.
My question is for the owners of the MSI GE60 out there is: how bad is the glossy cover and handrest areas when it comes to leaving marks? I know I can't beat the MSI GE60 when it comes to power vs. portability but I just wanna known what I'm getting myself into. I would hate to see me new notebook look old/dirty after just a year of use. -
Hi everyone,
I have been looking around for a new laptop and I am pretty sure that I will get the GE70 with the 660 video card. Looked around at a number of places that sell it and I like the build options and reviews of going with XOTICPC.
This thread has been a great source of information and I have read through it all today. Thank you all for sharing and helping with my purchase decision,
The only upgrades I plan to make from stock are:
Diamond thermal paste
Intel 6235 wireless/bluetooth
120GB mSATT SSD
Custom wrap
Optical Drive with 4x Blue Ray
Remove bloatware from Windows 7 Home
Still may upgrade to the 72% glossy screen. Thinking I would prefer a matte, but it is too much to upgrade to the 72% matte (money is in the mSATT drive)
Still may upgrade wireless.
Any thoughts on the stock screen from those who have one and if it is worth going up to a glossy 72%. -
I would suggest that you check mSATA SSD prices on newegg as usually laptop resellers sell HDD/SSD upgrades for significantly more than they would cost individually.
-
I just read about the mSATA thing recently and i'm curious if anyone got this to actually work.
Originally I planned to get my laptop from XoticPC but I realized that I won't be upgrading much aside from adding an mSATA so why not just do it myself and all.
I plan to just get the base 750GB 7200RPM Hard drive for storage and stuff while getting a 120GB mSATA from newegg as my operating system drive (if that is possible forgive me I'm more used to desktops than laptops)
Also if ever lets say I do get from Xotic/Gentech, any reasonable upgrades I should get? I don't wanna spend an arm and a leg for a laptop (again I always prefer desktops but currently the need arises that a laptop would benefit my gaming experience) -
For upgrades, really the only things I would recommend upgrading is the screen if you really need the 95% or whatever gamut. I don't think I could notice the difference as I'm not a designer so it didn't concern me. The stock screen is gorgeous compared to normal crappy low res, glossy, narrow viewing angle screens. Besides that, you can do everything else yourself. Maybe you might want to go with an improved wireless card if you have a good router as the stock card is only 150mbps wireless N. I plan on upgrading to a decent 300mbps one in the future. Even though this isn't necessarily a gaming enthusiast laptop, all the major components are accessible through the bottom panel so even replacing the stock paste with your own is doable without having to fork over large amounts of money for your retailer to do it. -

Today's exchange rate $1.00 US = 1,180 Korean Won
They are sold without Windows 7 preinstalled. -
Just as a point of fact, unless "large amounts of money" to you is less than 40 bucks (which, if you are buying a $1200+ laptop, it shouldn't be), having a reseller put on new thermal paste (and thus making sure to keep your warranty intact) is not a big deal.
