Yes I hook up a mechanical keyboard to my machine so I have to agree, this is a desk to desk machine where you don't have to lug around a decent keyboard to go with it :)

Hahahaha, really liked the video :)

While not much is revealed, it does seem like MSI is busy at work at making one of the most powerful machines ever. The massive 330w brick is quite nice :p and it seems there will be an extreme edition CPU later as an option or as THE only option?

My biggest concern is the temperature, the impact of losing half of the laptop's body to the keyboard.

It looks like the heat exhaust is thicker than the rest of the notebook so with some beefy fans they can channel out a lot of heat through those holes

Looks like the Delta 330W we already see in Clevos and Alienwares and proven insufficient given the cooling is done right (more room for overclocking, more stress on the PSU). If there is a single point of failure it's this one. If the 4K rumor proves right, they obviously went out of the way and custom ordered a display (there's nothing else on the market with such screen), yet they stuck with already proven insufficient PSU. If that's not form>function, I don't know what it is. They claim enthusiast machine, yet you get the bling, but not the power (again if the cooling is up for the task, if it's not, even more black points).

@Jesha........dude go pound sand!!, my p570wm with non sli dual quadro k5000m's, willl smoke or keep up with most sub $5k desktops. You dont know what your talking about. The new sli 980m's are outperforming me currently by 20% or more in gaming and cad benchmarks. Hold your tounge before "the curlews peck out your eyes".

I can run 24/7 @ 4.8ghz , 100% mobile. Show me a desktop that can do that. And be mobile. In one oakley backpack??

The main advantage desktops have on the quadro front is the better ability of the gk110 chips to handle fp64 operations. Other than that it's not a big difference.

My guess is your options will be a i7 4720HQ or a i7 4980HQ, similar to the GT72s, with the addition of this newer (100mhz higher) chip? :)

I wonder if the 330w brick will only be for that 'extreme' version.

For the record the processor you have quoted is Haswell-E not Broadwell, this is evident from the lithography in your link. If you do not understand what lithography is then this link should make it a bit more obvious.

    Products (Formerly Haswell E)

Currently there are laptops for sale with Broadwell CPU's albeit ultra low power (BDW-U) or extremely low power (BDW-Y) CPU's. As to date there are no desktop Broadwell CPU's for sale.

Intel have held off on the higher end versions of broadwell. As for the reasons there are many people speculating out there.

True that, but one was hoping to beat the hell out of what is currently on the market = even better cooling. I guess it would be OK cooling, probably running all 4 @4.4GHz (they would be stupid if at the very least don't allow this "freedom"), but nothing really inspiring to be honest. For a get it and run it machine, it would more than OK, but not really an enthusiast piece as the name would suggest.

Well actually being able to overclock the CPU to 4.4ghz would place it above any other currently sold SLI machine on the market for clocking, the sager's heatsink is too small and alienware don't sell the 980M at the moment.

4K on laptops is a joke anyway for several reasons:

    1. For the next few years we will never have enough horsepower to run games at 4K, max settings, 60(+) FPS.
    2. The screen size is too small to justify higher resolutions. I think it does make sense on 27" and higher displays, but certainly not on a 18.4", let alone anything below that.

In my personal opinion 4K on laptops is just a giant waste of resources.

Some pictures of the monster, sorry if they were already posted, I didn't check all the thread.
    https://www.facebook.com/MSIFrancePortables/photos_stream
Cooling seems powerful, I hope it won't be too noisy because fans look similar to the old GT (and you have 2 of them), 2 air exhausts for a single fan usually mean the fan have to spin faster for a decent air flow. (hence the noisy elder GT)
On the other hand, I may be wrong since you have 4 radiators, which is a lot of cooling surface, which allow either low spinning fan or excellent tempeatures.

Well, according to a video review posted earlier in this thread the fans are pretty/very noisy (depending if you enable the turbo fan yes or not).

I agree about 4K on notebooks being a waste - But on certain occasions it is good, such as editing photos. I have the 3K IPS panel in my GT60 and it can be pretty hard to read when I keep text size at 100%

What are the prices on this laptop?

I found 4720hq and 16GB version is going to be $3299 and 4980HQ and 24GB version for $3699. Both with 1TB and 256SSD.
