I have been trying for days to upgrade my windows 8 to windows 10. It's not happening. When I called ofr install tech support the Windows person said that Windows 10 cannot be put on my unit. Yet I read of others with Windows 10 on this same notebook.
    What is the real deal?
Do I need modifications to do this? Am I stuck with a laptop that cannot ever run Windows 10?

I find it hard to believe that you shouldn’t be able to install Windows 10 on your unit. Did the ”windowsperson” give you a reason why not ?

The period where you could upgrade to Windows 10 for free has long ended. You need to purchase a license to install it.

Just clean install windows 10. It will work with no prob out of the box. After, you can install the nvidia drivers, the touchpad drivers...

If I have to pay for a code then whatever. Even with the code it wouldn't install an update from 8.1. Windows tech help said since there were no Win 10 drivers for some MSI components of my model I was out of luck. Sounded very suspicious to me - I mean this computer is hella powerful. Unless there is a weird driver issue I don't see why there would be a problem - I don't want to have buttons that don't work tho.
I I am gonna do a fresh install of 10 and see what happens. I just didn't want to spend ages wrestling with something and have it not work in the end. You would think windows tech help would know this stuff....hahaha sigh

Do a fresh install of W10 falls creator's update and use your old W8 serial number. It works.
For the drivers, use the one from Haswell MSI GT60/70 that are W10 compliant. Although you should download them directly from the manufacturer (AMD, Nvidia, Killer's, ...)
