    hi all,
ive searched these forums but it seems only an idiot like me installed xp on the x410, and now ive got no sound over hdmi to the tv.pictures fine.

realtek audio manager and all the windows audio options offers me no digital/hdmi out option.
sound out over hdmi worked fine before i installed xp, i think its something to do with the

'audio device on high definition audio bus'

cos in device manager it states the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28).

now after i installed xp i then installed the realtek audio drivers from the msi site and they installed ok but the subset drivers for high definition audio bus kept asking for a cd/etc to install drivers via windows found new hardware wizard, and after directing it to the flash drive with the realtek audio drivers with no success i had to cancel this bit and let the realtek audio driver software continue its installation, which it did, and sound is fine on the lappy, but no sound over hdmi,
this has got me stumped, is it possible the drivers on the msi site are faulty or need some specialised method of installing ?

    any pointers much welcomed, cheers

Try changing the output to HDMI in the control panel, hardware and sound and see if that works.

Right, I 've seen this issue before. The driver you're after is often included with the Realtek drivers (its actually an MS driver) but seems to be getting lost/perhaps has been removed.

Id say uninstall your Realtek drivers, download the latest version of the HDMI audio drivers direct from realtek rather than MSI, and try those. If you still get that missing driver, you may need to see exactly which component is missing, as it may be the MS high definition audio bus part, as Im pretty sure thats a seperate driver.

i have no digital out or hdmi option in playback devices or volume control, it should simply be a matter of selecting em, but they aint there !
i can not seem to find anything on the realtek site (what a lousy barren site).

and as for the MS high definition audio bus driver, does it actually exist ?, what to download/how to install ? seems like a mega complicated affair.

    this is driving me potty.

Just curious, what is your machine and basic specs...

edit: I am assuming you are using an ATI video card, so try this (from this link http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/246879-15-need-hdmi-audio-3870 ):

I installed the latest ATI drivers, the Microsoft drivers then load automatically. I then installed Realtek ATI HDMI drivers (Google "ATI HDMI Audio Device" ).

Then I installed "ac3filter" (google it, it's free). I restarted after that. In ac3filter Main Tab I checked "Use SPDIF" and choose 5.1 audio out. In the SPDIF Tab I choose the formats my Surround Sound can decode (DTS, AC3, PCM 24bit) .

I turned on my receiver. In the Audio control panel choose Realtek HDMI Output as Default, choose Properties, click Supported Formats Tab, tested what formats will play (for me all but "Microsoft WMA Pro Audio" ) and do the same in Advanced (choose 24bit). After that all 5.1 surround worked great.

A few notes: the Configure button on the Sound Control Panel still doesn't show 5 speakers, just 2. That made me think 5.1 wasn't working until I tested it. Also I had "Microsoft WMA Pro Audio" checked in the Supported Formats tab and that stopped any audio going out when playing WMA files.

    thanx all for pointers

im downloading suggested stuff right now.
ive already tried various drivers for my ms1 x410 (ati radeon x1250,realtek high defintion audio) but they were not compatible, its difficult finding the exact right driver.
hopefully what im downloading now is the correct one (bet its not though !, its a minefield getting the right drivers for this laptop)

aaarrrggghh, bloody hell this is frustrating.
again, ive installed what seem to be the correct drivers, and again no hdmi option in playback devices, no way to select hdmi output anywhere.

    latest drivers ive installed are=

    10-2_legacy_xp32-64_dd_cc
    10-2 _xp32-64_hdmiaudio
    kb888111xpsp2-en

these are the correct stuff for my x410 ? its specs are=
    ati radeon x1250
    realtek high defintion audio

what the hell must i do/install to get sound over hdmi to tv ?

im bloody stumped, never had a prob with hdmi before on other pcs (had a hp laptop that had digital out option in windows volume control/advanced, but this realtek/ati crap greys out that advanced drop down option in windows audio control)

theres no hdmi option/settings anywhere on this realtek/ati piece of crap, not in realtek sound manager, windows volume control or windows advanced audio settings.

have i got a faulty hdmi port ? how could i find this out ?

any help very welcome, im on the verge of putting my fist in this laptop.

    cheers
