Hazah finally got my hands on a 1722 barebone and even better its not the red model so it won't stick out like my old 1651.

Welcome aboard Rorsh, i take it you got a silver model?
I think its discreetly stylish indeed.
Which parts are you working to aquire? -
cpu ram hdd are the bare minimum i need to get it up and running, cd drive and wifi I can hold off on if I need to. I do plan to upgrade the gpu once I have it up and running.
-
Congrats, mate! You sure are now busy with that baby rather than beating up thugs, hehe.
-
Laptop arrived today and I love it already, its very clean looking, reminds me a lot of a sager or a lenovo.
-
if you need the newest BIOS and EC firmware files check this out: MS-1722 ID1
You can also find the latest SCM version.
Good luck with the notebook. -
Enjoy that, great buy man...

The media keys are controlled by individual firmware thankfully, which i dont think is included in the bios but im not 100% sure.
Put some glowing light bulbs inside the pannel haha, i think you can buy the official MSI logo though, although im suprised its seeming plasticy to you, my 1722/Advent 6555 only has the screen trim and then the outer keyboard trim as plastic? -
BIOS and Firmware are separated, so if you use the correct BIOS and EC Firmware files everything should work correct and it will not mess up the media keys.
BIOS version A1722IG6.110 is the latest for the ID1
BIOS version A1722IMS.101 is the latest for the ID2
EC Firmware version 1722EG61.430 is the latest for ID1
EC Firmware version 1722EMS.430 is the latest for ID2
SCM version is the latest for Windows XP, Vista , 7 (32/64bit) 2.209.1106.005.10
The BIOS files provided here are exclusively for MSI products. I take noresponsibility for any damage caused by improper use or lack of technical expertise.

RePaRaQu for ID1 & ID2
MSI for ID2 only
Notebook runs awesome with Windows 7 32/64bits -
that was all I wanted to know, is if they used different versions and it would seem they do.

I just bought a 1722 ID2, Its the barebone notebook, Comes with everything but the cpu, ram, hard drive, and wireless card. Here is where it gets interesting.
I bought a Q9100 on ebay, 4gb's of ram, a 320gb hard drive.
Now for the best part, I just ordered a GTS 160m to replace the 9600m GT, all I have to do is find a heatsink that will work. I should have everything in a week.
I will make a review of it when all the parts arrive and are installed. -

You got it from eurocom, right?

I was also thinking of buying this but at 75 watts I dont think it will run at full clocks and its not worth the risk. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180442740213&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Who knows, I think the nvidia cards just aren't worth messing with. The 9800m gs could be overclocked to 9800m gts clocks so that alone either means the tdp isn't really 75 watts or there is something else that allows it to work. I thought about looking for a cheap nvidia card, but right now I think my efforts are better spent on trying to find a 4850.
Cobra I hope your q9100 comes before you ship out your laptop you might run into some problems getting it to run with a quadcore if your bios aren't up to date.
The hdd arrived today, so now I'm just waiting on the ram and cpu, hopefully they will be here tomorrow or friday. Can't wait to get my laptop up and running. It really looks a lot like a big lenovo laptop, I feel like I could actually take this one with me to work. -

>.> there were two for sale pulled from a alienware laptop a week or so ago. Unfortunatly they were both from the same seller and he would only sell them together.
>.< course you are right they are ridicoulsy hard to find. Thats why its so damn tempting to get a nvidia gpu. -

hazah they were right here course if your willing to spend that kind of cash better of getting a whole new notebook. I'll probably just break down and get a nvidia gpu.

>.> just order the 628 heatsink, you should be able to detach it from the heatpipes.
-
I doubt a GT628 heatsink will work.. MSI is wierd and usually when you try to remove the pipe from the heatsink it gets damaged.. Unless your very careful, it might work.. You could always make one..
-
I might not be getting the 160m, eurocom is a joke. They said they would include free shipping and now they want $67 to ship it. I flat out told them NO and canceled the order. So now I will have to wait longer to see what I am going to do with this 1722 upgrade.

Yah you shouldn't buy from eurocom can't trust Canadians
. Well my 1722 is up and running now. It runs nice, the lcd is a little nicer than the one on my old 1651. Didn't even have to do a bios update to get my p7450 to work. I'll be upgrading to quadcore in the near future.

Setfsb works great with this laptop, haven't pushed it past 2.6ghz yet, but so far it runs fine. With the overclock on my gpu and cpu I'm at 6k in 3dmark 06 running at 1280x1024. I'll get a review up as soon as I finish assembling it.
