This computer does come with no Windows 7. The price will still start at $1.249. This computer has a chiclet style keyboard rather than the steelseries. There is an optional 3 Year Parts - Next Business Day Shipping Warranty with Lifetime Labor + 24/7 DOMESTIC Tech Support. Additionally, there is the option of a 90% NTSC Color Gamut Glossy LCD (AU OB173HW01 V4) screen option.

Would have bought this Laptop if warranty covered shipping for Canadian Customers, but they do for Puerto Rico
Unless this has changed ? -
No Windows,
Less Ram,
One HDD,
Standard keyboard without backlit.
These are the ony differents, right? -

Nice, though this makes my decision a lot harder now. Currrently looking at the Sager NP8170 (with ATI 6990M) or the MSI GT780DX-215US (GTX570M), both with same configs. Guess I am going to wait for more info on this laptop as well as more benchmarks and such on the ATI 6990M and GTX 570M cards.

Nice find Tim4 and this seems like a very solid choice for those (me) on a tight budget
.
Looking forward to the barebone pricing as well.

It is on the same shell as the MSI GT780DX-X8 so you can look at those pictures for now. The only difference is the PowerPro R 12:17 will have a Chiclet keyboard instead of the Steelseries keyboard.
The only other major difference is the warranty package. -
-
As for the barebones 17".. I am encouraged...
I hope there is a 15" barebones as well. -

all for only $1478 after the 3% cash discount is placed. without the cash discount, $1523 which is still extremely inexpensive. if Asus had specs like these it would definitely cost over 2k.
cant wait to see how well/long this notebook is able to perform. -

i think my configuration actually could have been cheaper, because i think either Donald or Charlotte (sales reps who helped me) forgot to give me the student discount lol! but im not gonna complain. the price im paying for these specs is a steal compared to all the mainstream computer brands. so if you're a student, make sure you take advantage of all the discounts they got.
-
will be waiting for your review jacobbobcorn. or maybe I'll join you in pre-order
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Just check your final price against the Customizer price...you will see that you got it. -
it's too bad these barebones systems are coming out later...if i had known about it i would've gone this route. very nice!

Can you guys do comparison between matte and glossy screens? I would much prefer matte screen, but it doesn't have 90% gamut.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
If you prefer Matte you will not be disappointed with the standard Matte screen, it is excellent even though it isn't 95%. I don't think I have read any complaints about the MSI GT780 screen, and this will have the same screen.
-
may you say me which of screens cost less in general? matte or glossy? And any ideas why MSI prefered matte screen (if it is more expensive) ?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I guess matte screens are more expensive just because they are made in lower quantities.
-
for $1200 this is my top choice now, all depends how 570 will handle BF3.
-
would i be able to send in the 11:12 to upgrade when a new graphics card comes out? or would i have to buy another laptop?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
11:12? Do you mean the PowerPro R 11:36?
If so, then unfortunately the video card is not "officially" upgradeable so we couldn't do it, and MSI won't do it. However if you look at Timur's review of the PowerPro R 11:36 on this forum you will see that he installed an AMD 5870 which is a hotter card and he seems to be doing fine with it. However I would recommend waiting until after your warranty expires to do that sort of thing, and keep your nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 192bit w/1.5GB GDDR5 in case you have to use it again -
-
i wonder how many others are also pre ordering?
the wait is so painful. still waiting for bank of america's verification widthdrawal so that i can pay my invoice. i just cannot wait to start gaming on this laptop. i think about it every day and night lol. -
I just ordered it, im receiving mine at the end of september
when a friend travels back
