This computer does come with no Windows 7. The price will still start at $1.249. This computer has a chiclet style keyboard rather than the steelseries. There is an optional 3 Year Parts - Next Business Day Shipping Warranty with Lifetime Labor + 24/7 DOMESTIC Tech Support. Additionally, there is the option of a 90% NTSC Color Gamut Glossy LCD (AU OB173HW01 V4) screen option.

Would have bought this Laptop if warranty covered shipping for Canadian Customers, but they do for Puerto Rico  :(

    Unless this has changed ?

The weight looks right but that is the dimensions of the 15.6" rather than the 17" model. I know that because I had to make the tough decision between the 15" or 17" models.

Nice, though this makes my decision a lot harder now. Currrently looking at the Sager NP8170 (with ATI 6990M) or the MSI GT780DX-215US (GTX570M), both with same configs. Guess I am going to wait for more info on this laptop as well as more benchmarks and such on the ATI 6990M and GTX 570M cards.

Looking forward to the barebone pricing as well.

It is on the same shell as the MSI GT780DX-X8 so you can look at those pictures for now. The only difference is the PowerPro R 12:17 will have a Chiclet keyboard instead of the Steelseries keyboard.

The only other major difference is the warranty package.

Well, let's be realistic... the 570m is designed to compete with the 6970m, not the 6990m. The Sager with the 6990m will be a notch faster than the 570m by design.

As for the barebones 17".. I am encouraged...
I hope there is a 15" barebones as well.

There is currently a barebone version of the GT680 series, called the 16F2. Currently, it still has the 560m. I have emailed several resellers and two people at MSI and all state there are no plans for a 570m or higher in a 15" barebone. :(

i think my configuration actually could have been cheaper, because i think either Donald or Charlotte (sales reps who helped me) forgot to give me the student discount lol! but im not gonna complain. the price im paying for these specs is a steal compared to all the mainstream computer brands. so if you're a student, make sure you take advantage of all the discounts they got.

Can you guys do comparison between matte and glossy screens? I would much prefer matte screen, but it doesn't have 90% gamut.

If you prefer Matte you will not be disappointed with the standard Matte screen, it is excellent even though it isn't 95%. I don't think I have read any complaints about the MSI GT780 screen, and this will have the same screen.

11:12? Do you mean the PowerPro R 11:36?

If so, then unfortunately the video card is not "officially" upgradeable so we couldn't do it, and MSI won't do it. However if you look at Timur's review of the PowerPro R 11:36 on this forum you will see that he installed an AMD 5870 which is a hotter card and he seems to be doing fine with it. However I would recommend waiting until after your warranty expires to do that sort of thing, and keep your nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 192bit w/1.5GB GDDR5 in case you have to use it again :)

Actually it's not that hot. I have attached screnshot of idle temps + max temps while running 3Dmark 06. My max temp during DeusEx human revolution was 65C on GPU core. During Furmark it was 70C max on GPU core! I love that cooling system. Ambient temp was 21-22C. My GPU is repasted with ICD.

It appears to be on the barebone.

MSI has some more pics up on their site now, we should have some high resolution ones soon.:

The barebone will also have the cooler boost function, cinema pro, dynaudio, and touch sensor rather than buttons.

If the systemboard has the connector for the power ribbon cable from the keyboard it would probably work.

From the photos this beast seems to have the same touch buttons across the top as the GT780R/GT780DXR. Cross fingers that they also have the same function!
