    Hello,

I have done some looking around and I decided that the MSI Gt80s was the best option for me. The only thing that concerns me is the power draw limiter. I have read some posts about it, however found no conclusive answer. So did MSI fix it, if so, may I get a link to the firmware update.

Also, I am looking for a messenger bag that is protective and has quite a bit of padding for those 'oops' moments. Does anyone have something in mind?

    Thank You

Are you shopping for the SLI version? Or single GPU version? This limitation only impacts SLI version by some but not a lot.

I have this model and have not run into any power draw issues. The worst I have seen during insane benching is a few percentage drops on the battery level. During all games, my battery stays at 100% and the GPU/CPU boosts and holds clocks fine. You wont see any limits in power till you start overclocking to the max. But honestly, especially at 1080p, I don't think we will ever need to overclock, so long as SLI is supported.

    Hello,

Thanks! Do you happen to know of any protective messenger bags that will fit it?

No, it's not fixed and unlikely to ever be fixed officially. You don't even need to be overclocking for it to occur. Stock speeds are more than enough to push total power consumption over 306W with the right games.

That is a broken product and I would have returned it on that alone. If enough of you guys returned those laptops over that they would have made a fix in a hurry. How long do you have to game before it starts to downclock though? LIke how long until the battery can no longer support the power consumption before it begins to throttle back.

If it's a very taxing game, it seems it takes about 6 continous hours. Then it throttles to 980m SLI levels of performance.

The only real fix we can hope is some sort of dual PSU support, because a sinlge 330W is not enough anyways. I noticed I also have battery drain with 980m SLI, albeit to a much slower degree that would take continuous day(or days) use at max performance to drain, but indeed its still there.

Jeez 6 hours really isn't that long though.. You could easily have a long afternoon of gaming with friends and have that time blow right by. In addition if you were overclocked, added additional peripherals etc it would happen even faster. That is no bueno my friend. IT's a shame they don't fix this or offer the option to purchase a larger power supply that can be utilized by the laptop.

The funny thing is, when overclocked, you actually run faster anyways even after the throttling happens. But yeah, the option for a dual PSU should be a must, and it should be something to learn from trying to put desktop 980s with a single 330W PSU.

Unfortunately I didn't find out about the issue until after the return window expired. I tried working with MSI for a month and a half but they flat-out refused to address the issue.

file a claim with BBB, your reseller, and video the battery draining under intense games or during a sustained benchmark run (eg: heaven 4K + tesselation max + OCCT CPU)

all else fail, contact your lawyer and see if he can make a threat to msi/reseller that you absolutely need to return the machine

The BBB is absolutely worthless. I'm fairly certain this is why MSI deals strictly with resellers, since if a customer is unhappy they end up taking all the flak. I already documented all of these and showed them to MSI. But I don't want to screw over my reseller just because of MSI's garbage business practices, so I'm chalking this up as a lesson learned and buying Clevo from here on out.

    Hello,

Thank you all for your responses! :)

I also do have another question. My battery is at 94% and says (Plugged in, not charging) I have seen posts like these in the past however, MSI FAQ says 95%. Is this normal? (Msi GT80s 6QF)

    Thanks

It is normal. the battery will not necessarily recharge until it reaches 90%. It varies.
