Looks like all the new GT72 models are now available for purchase NCIX and Canada Computers. This low Canadian dollar is really starting to hurt though as these are the most expensive models yet. I am thinking I am going to have to hang on to my GT70 for at least another year. The model most interesting to me is this one below, but at $3000 after taxes it is hard to justify.

It's a rough year currency-wise for you guys up there. The one you linked is a config that's not available here in the US. Interestingly enough, it's actually a GT72 but there's conflicting info with it being a GT72S.

I don't know if you guys have to pay an import tax on stuff from the states, but the GT72S-219 is going for $2199 here, or just under $3000 CAD with the conversion. If you're going to pay that much, might as well get a little more for your money.

I have often wondered about the whole import to Canada from the USA and never seem to get solid answer on it. I am pretty sure that we would have to pay our 13% sales tax and possible duty on top of that. The closest we have to the 219 is this one for $2899. It has 8gb more ram, but 4gb less Vram.

My GT70 is still holding its own for now, so I might as well keep it until I find a great deal or our dollar comes back.

Some of the boutique vendors here may be able to answer questions about taxes and import duties as I know several of them ship to Canada. You may want to drop them a line and see what they say.

Depending on the video card you bought it with, you may be able to extend its life with a 970m/980m upgrade. Check out that thread.

I did it on my GT60, but ended up damaging the card in the process. I had it fixed at an electronics shop. The repair worked for awhile, but eventually died.

Bottom line though is it worked - I just screwed up. :) Many others have succeeded too. So it might we worth taking a look at.

I usually do not bother upgrading the video card as they are just too expensive. I typically buy my laptops for around $2000 or less keep them for 2 years and sell it for $1000. If this 870m can run Battlefront at high settings with a decent fps I might just keep it for a 3rd year.

Taxes would be applicable on any imports yes, this is pretty universal round the world.

The 970m isn't too badly priced ... around $450 USD. Mine had a 675m that couldn't play much these days so it was a worthwhile upgrade.

It allowed me to wait for Skylake. :D

If the game engine stays closely to previous generation without too much enhancement then it's likely that you will be able to play the game smoothly.

The 970M, especially with the higher resale values on older MXM cards is actually a pretty good deal IMO, a lot of old systems it actually makes economical sense to do it.

Yeah, some of those of cards are still quite expensive. Weird that some old card can cost more than a modern card ... even more than the 980m.

If you're going to buy a GTX 970M in Canada, get it from @woodzstack here on these forums. I've bought one from him, no issues at all. He's in Montreal.

What really sucks is that up to recently, you could get the GT72 2QD-1442US for around $1600 CAD. GTX 970M, G-SYNC, etc. Add $60 for an extra 8GB of RAM and $120 for a good 256GB

At that price, might as well get a Clevo P770DM.

    http://www.eurocom.com/ec/configure(1,332,0)ec

It'll cost you a bit less (especially if you're a student), and you get a desktop CPU.

Yeah I have been looking at Eurocom more and more lately as all the big name companies keep raising their pricing due to the CDN dollar Eurocom is becoming more attractive.
