My MSI GT780DX-406 arrived from XoticPC yesterday and I finally got to unboxing it around 9PM last night : ) I will post actual impressions in a day or two..for now though I have an issue/question. Firstly, what I think was the hard drive must have come loose during shipping, because when I went to start it up for the first time, it kept displaying a boot message asking to "reboot and designate a boot path or insert a card..." as if there was nothing to boot from...so I turned the laptop over and as I am slowly turning it I hear movement inside the case...under the compartment where the subwoofer is I could actually see sliding of a component..it would actually move around about a good quarter inch or so..so I unscrewed the little panel on the underside of the notebook and simply slid it back over..locking it back into place and mating the two "sockets". This seemed to fix the issue as now at least the computer boots into windows and is usable..however here is my issue: After the MSI logo appears with the option to hit the Function keys for recovery etc..the following screen appears...after the "DHCP.../_ " line..the little forward slash and underscore hangs and flips around in circles as if working and waiting...it does this for a good minute or a little more..then the following lines appear as you can see in the photos:
PXE-E53 No Boot Filename Received
PXE - MOF Exiting PXS ROM
After this 1.5 minute annoying interuption, it will then boot normally into Windows very fast...so it's not really affecting the actual use of the computer from what I can tell but one of the reasons I got a SSD is for really fast boot times so this obviously is adding a full 1 to 1.5 minutes to that..otherwise..it would be ridiculously fast! Can anyone please shed some light as to what I should do?? Thank you! NOTE: Sorry about the one pic being blurry..the 2nd link is the actual first screen before the PXE messages appear...the blurry pic is actually the screen right before it continues to windows...

Hey there, you need to change the boot order to HDD first, it's trying to boot from the LAN.

Thank you very much!! I really appreciate the help...from what I know, this is just a pretty easy switch in the bios right? However, I apologize..but when it comes to this type of thing..I am pretty much a Newbie still....would it be too much to ask if someone could list the steps on how to do that?? Thank you!!

I called MSI...and was able to easily switch around the boot order..wow, I feel silly for having to ask..it was such a piece of cake...however, I must say I'm disappointed with xoticpc....While on the phone with MSI, I told him about my laptop arriving with my SSD completely loose...and he was totally alarmed. He told me that absolutely should not have happened because the SSD should actually be screwed down...apparently, it looks like xoticpc actually forgot to screw it down...Im not even sure if they used a bracket...so the MSI rep told me to ask them to send me some screws and a bracket because if it's not fastened, it can very easily come loose again..and it it happens when the laptop is running...it would be in his words "very bad".....xotic is closed right now (plus I've found it very difficult to get a live human being on the phone lately anyway, they must be swamped)...but I'll surely be calling them in the morning...

Is the bracket attached to the drive and only the 2 screws missing or is there no bracket?
2 screws secure the bracket to the drive and 2 screws secure the bracket to the notebook preventing movement.
Did you find a small block of hard black rubber in the box or notebook?
This is better used for vibration dampening of platter hard drives and not for tightly securing.
So,getting a second drive doesn't get you a second bracket?
It's a bad decision by MSI! -

To be honest, I'm not sure....I'm going to have to open it up again tomorrow to double check...Justin from these forums seems to think that brackets arent used in the MSI's....but I need to get to the bottom of it because regardless, I really don't think it should be that easy for a HD to come unseated....By the way, in the few hours I've had to play around so far, besides for the slight annoyance of the HD issue, this laptop is AWESOME. Amazing screen....SSD is ridiculously fast....the keyboard is awesome...I know it's early...but so far..I'm impressed!
New 780DX-406 Issue..Please Help : )
