Sooo, long story short, my friend got a new desktop he's buliding and won't be using his old laptop anymore so he gave it to me for free, yay! It's a msi 16f3 by a company name, Power Notebooks? "Weird name"
I've done a lot of researching but I assume you guys know more than me so I want to kind of merge mine and your research together. Any help will do :)
I am missing screws and in the future I would love to change the chassis to be a gt60.
EBay helps, so does amazing, so does AliExpress.
So I'm really looking for is what are your builds currently, and what other websites can I find for parts?
Seriously excited to build a gaming computer under $1,000! :)

Folks from Power Notebooks actually frequent this forum.

The 16F3 is a GT60. I can't say whether or not they used a barebones version or not - they could tell you better.

What are you wanting to upgrade, and what's in it now?

That GT60 can only go up to an Ivy Bridge CPU - so unless you buy an XM version you're not going to get much of an upgrade there.

You can go up as high as a 980m for a video card - IF you do the heatsink mods and use modded BIOS and EC firmware. The 970m is the sweet spot for price and performance.

You can add a 2.5" SATA SSD. There are no M.2 slots - just 2 2.5" bays.

    You can update the WiFi.

You can update the RAM to 32GB.

That's pretty much all you can do with it. I've done all of the above to mine.

    Well... http://www.powernotebooks.com/

The company went defunct very recently. But yes, eBay, Amazon, and AliExpress all are good sources for components. Newegg has good deals from time to time, and www.panelook.com is a great resource for LCD screens. We also have some "owners lounges" here on NBR; you can scout out the ones for your particular model and generation for some in-depth insights too.

Hopefully the new (and free!) laptop treats you well!

Bummer for them. :( I'm quite surprised to hear that.

RJTech.com has the best prices on laptop graphics cards. Much cheaper than Eurocom and other vendors on Amazon/Ebay.

It has everything but screws, like almost all of them xD, Video card. "On what he told me it's fried", I don't have a charger, Ram, hard drives. I got a processor! I7-3630QM
My plans after getting a card us a 120 evo sdd 8GB Ram 970m card and that will be under 600, then after that I'll start adding more. In total on everything I want will be 978$ in total lol
