    1. Better processor, sufficient GPU, larger SSD.
This is going to be the best all-around.

    2. Standard processor, better GPU, smaller SSD.
Best GPU, but with CPU-heavy games it will still lag. Better upgrades such as CPU is definitely welcome.

Out of those two choices, for gaming purposes, the second laptop is a much much better choice for the same $$$. RAM is irrelevant for gaming comparing 16 to 24GB, no game uses that much. The 780m is significantly faster than the 770m, and is the best GPU currently available. I've got the i7-4700MQ CPU and nothing comes close to maxing it out in gaming in actual usage and has yet to limit anything I've tried... the marginal difference will be more than offset by the faster GPU.. Go with option 2; GPU is more often than not the limiting factor, especially if you want to use the machine for any extended amount of time. Storage options are cheap and easy to upgrade later if you ever desire.

Having said that, either machine will run games great, option 2 will simply run them better.

I don't recommend upgrading to a 4900MQ. There's almost no difference between that and a 4800MQ so the extra $150-250 is going to give you very minimal performance gains, if any. I suggest you go with the 2nd option and add a 4800MQ. If that's too expensive, then go with the 1st option but downgrade it to a 4800MQ.

Agree that the second option is probably better. The smaller SSD is supplemented by the 1 TB mechanical drive, so unless you think you'll need the extra head room for your programs, this configuration should treat you well - especially with the more powerful GPU. Personally, I think the 4700MQ is adequate for most games, but if you have the budget and option to upgrade to the 4800MQ, go for it! Just be cognizant of your temps, as both the 4800MQ and 780M are liable to produce more heat when they are stressed.
