Need advice, buying nephew an MSI

Hey guys I'm not terribly familiar with computers esp gaming computers. Im buying my nephew a gaming computer that hes been wanting beyond badly for the last 3 years or so. Im going to surprise him and after much research and talking with people I heard the biggest mistake people make when buying their first is going out and spending $400 or $500 trying to save $ only to find out that they wasted every penny because they can't compete or enjoy the visuals.

So I'm gonna go with an MSI that a ton of people recommended and was a top or near the top of many lists for best gaming comps of 2018 under $1500. ( I forget the actual name and model other than its MSI i have all that saved in my.phone ). My only wonder is he's in highschool in a year and this will also be his means to use a comouter for school etc. I know it comes with Windows 10 so I'm hoping he will get the same use out of it for school that he would a regular Toshiba etc? That's my ? I just want to make sure I'm not keeping him from doing anything especially with the way it.looked it kinda threw me off with the red/orange and black coloring lol. It looks cool as he'll I just don't want his dad and grandma to kill me if he can't use it for school lol. They've never had a computer could never afford one so it's important he can use it for school. All i got when googling this ? Was links to school districts and links recomending hp and dells for gaming and school. Thanks guys

 

I am really unclear what the intention is. MSI notebooks are meant for gaming and as such have a lot of performance, you're basicially asking if a porsche can drive 50 mph, so yes, a gaming MSI notebook for around 1.5K bucks can handle everything the school could possibly throw at it. However, if you want to purchase a notebook that is more professional for school and such, a business class notebook would be better, due to them being typically more durable.

 

Schools are frequently issuing Chromebooks to students, which have very low system specs by comparison, so it should be fine.

The only problem I can think of would be battery life. I don't know how his school will handle usage of personal laptops but if they're needed all day many gaming laptops don't really have that kind of battery life unless it's an Aero or something.

 

Does he like Apple stuff?
Well, if your budget is at around $1500 then you are in the right spot for an above average gaming system. Also, you can compare other brands such as ASUS, Aorus, and Sager. Be on the lookout for promos and check with resellers for current promotions.
