Had a bad flash and now my MS-1722 won't boot far enough to flash again.

Not sure which chip is the BIOS.

Anybody know which chip is the BIOS or where to get a new chip?

I doubt you can get them on there own im afraid, when you say boot far enough, what do you mean?

You may need a new 9600m gt or another card for that slot.

Press the power button and it starts and the LCD lights up a little bit as though it is going to post but no text or anything and it just stops there. I've tried booting with a DOS boot CD and a USB stick that I know are both bootable in order to try to flash the card blindly but it freezes up before it gets far enough to read them.

I know a guy who recovers BIOS chips after bad flashes and may be able to erase the EEPROM and force the original BIOS code back into it but neither of us knows which chip on the board is the BIOS chip.

It is not the bios for the 9800 gt that you need. The computer will still boot without the 9800 gt as the motherboard contains video support. Might want to rename your post so as to get more help pertaining to your problem.

    9800m gt? its a 96000 isnt it.

You could remove the card to see if there is an onboard controller,

or you could try a blind re-flash.

I found a used 9600M GT and the MS-1722 runs fine with it. I'm trying to salvage the original card (which is new) but when it is installed the machine will not post. So if it will not post with the old card installed then I obviously cannot flash it while it is in the machine. Unless you know of a way to disable the hardware check on startup which seems to be preventing it from posting.

As noted in post #3, I have tried to blind re-flash it from a CD and a USB stick but the machine will not post when the card is installed in it.

No i mean even with the screen not showing anything, im talking about totally blind, if not remove the card and see if anything will happen?

I know what blind means. If a computer will not post then it obviously cannot be flashed from a CD or a USB stick or a floppy drive or anything else--blind or otherwise.

It does me no good to remove the card as it needs to be flashed or replaced in order to work again.

Sorry guys, but this thread asked two very specific questions and that's all I need to know right now:

    1. Anybody know where to buy a BIOS chip for a 9600M GT?

    2. Anybody know which chip on the 9600M GT board is the BIOS chip (so it can be removed from the board and flashed manually with an EEPROM programmer or something like that)?

    Thanks for trying, though.

Well my dear buddy I guess that your specific questions are TOO specific for us to help you...

Good luck finding the nvidia M96 core over the internet, and the best of the lucks finding how to reflash it, good luck finding the correct programmer or you could buid yours by testing the pins with a logic analyzer and coding assembler for the logic flasher (custom EEPROM) pics, unsolder the old one and solder the new one, those are hundreds of pins mate  but good luck, though... perhaps >$300USD for this project? ...

    Thanks dear buddy.

FYI- BIOS chips typically have 8 pins.

    Thanks for trying, though.

Does the bios chip not have any markings?
I guess I'm not understanding you completely. Can you not just look at the board and see which one it is?

There are a lot of chips on the board. I know a guy who recovers and sells mostly motherboard BIOS chips after bad flashes. I had him take a look at the board and examine the chip markings but he didn't recognize any of the chips as being the BIOS.

I've gotten some technical info about the MS-1722 from this forum before and thought somebody with some technical details or a schematic or something might pass through here and have some insight.
