I have a GX600 & I was happy enough with it initially, until I tried to update the OS. I formated my drive & then found that the boot sequence fails to recognise DVD drive. I now have a $1000 GX600 brick & a serious pain in the head...

    I was considering 2 options.

Firstly, to put the hd into another machine & do the initial part of loading the os [the file copy] then put the disk back & finish the install. But there seams to me to be 2 problems with this. I don't want ot damage the warranty by opening the case, even if it is just to take the disk out. & also I don't have another 64 bit machine to use to load the os & I'm fairly sure the install will complain that the machine can't run the os unless it is a 64 bit machine.

My second plan was to try to laod the OS via a Realtek boot device. But after doing a bit of looking around for some software to do that [don't really know how network boot works], it looks like I need to install some client software to do that & if you know how to install software on a brick, please tell me...

I imported the machine from the states to the UK, and due to the import duty, it would cost a small fortune to send it back for repair/replacement.

I’m really pulling my hair out here, so if anybody has any good ideas how to bring it back to life, I’d really appreciate any ideas…

    Thanks for reading

I think so, ie. the led lights, but I haven't opended the case, as I said I don't want to void the warenty, so maybe that's a possibility...

So, the drive LED and the ejection mechanism doesn't work? Sounds like a dead drive.

This all happened right after an Update ?? Is that a Microsoft Update ?? Almost sounds like the drivers got corrupted ?? If so you may have to use a USB drive to reinstall the drivers. Better yet, if you have the Windows recovery enabled, you can choose a time before all this happened, say a few days ago or a week ago and have Windows go back to that time before all this happened. That may help. If you try it let us know how it goes. God Bless :)

It didn't really happen after an update [I didn't get that far]. The machine was duel booting Windows & Ubuntu [Linux]. I deleted my linix partition [from windows] then rebooted to reload Ubuntu from a CD, but the CD wouldn't read. Then I discovered the linux partition drove the duel boot program, then I discovered I couldn't boot from any CD, Windows CD, recovery CD, anything

Essentially all I did is removed a non windows partition from the hard disk. How could that affect the drivers?

Go to your BIOS and go to the BOOT options. Please make sure that your DVD drive is booting before your hard drive. If not, then make the change and save it, then try booting to your DVD drive again. Hope this helps, let us know. God Bless :)
