I currently own an Msi gx700 I've had this laptop since the week they came int the mArket.
This computer never gave men any troubles until yesterday.
I came home turned it on it was running well as usual then it popped up that I had Trojan.. So I vaulted it and was about to run a virus scan when the computer locked up my screen turned kind of pinkish liney. It wouldn't come back after hitting ctrl alt del so I had to do a hard shut down. I turn itback on and now all I have is blank screen.. Nothing come up at all.. The backlight comes on I can hear it start up it loads to my desktop but I see nothing no Msi loading press such and such for startup Nadda just blank... My sleep light is also always on now... But I can still turn the wifi on and off charge my iPhone. Ect I know the comp is runnin. I tried putting in the recovery disk and the screen isstill blank.. Is it possible my video chip let go? Or what else could it be?
Sorry for the Lon thread oh it's running windows 7

When you turn it on, try to view it in a diff angles, if you faint images (i mean VERY faint images) on the screen, there is a possibility that your LCD / inverter gave in.

Try plugging it to an external monitor and see if it is going to output on the external monitor.

I have tried the tilting and get nothing because i frst rhought it was the inverter. I just don't have a VGA cable grr to plug it into my tv as an external monitor right now.... Poosh... I'll have to get one and give it a whirl. So if that doesn't work do I consider my video chip dead? Why would my sleep button be constantly on? Even with it being on the comp is still loading ect and workinh but if I shut the lid it also no longer goes into standby... It's so weird... Thanks!
Sorry for bad spelling I'm also on my iPhone Gracie I haven comp hahah.

Go to a close friends house who has a desktop computer and ask if you can troubleshoot it. Won't take 5 mins.

In regards to the sleep button, AFAIK, it's always on (thinking it's the same for all GX7** series as I have the GX720). It will blink if it's on sleep/lid is closed.

Try an external monitor, if that fails your video card probably committed suicide. Lines on the screen to hard reboot with nothing on the screen afterward in my experience is usually a dead video card 9/10 times.

    Ouch.

My brother had a similar dilemma.

In the future, using a real-time virus protection software like:
    "AVG Internet Security"
...would of prevented this, assuming you're using a free virus scanner with no real-time protection :p

You can pick it up on Purplus for like 15$ (1user) 25$ (3user) I believe.

I've never had a virus myself in the 3 years using it (blocked them all before they came in).

Also it's a good idea to use AdBlockPlus and NoScript in firefox too :)
