    Hi all,

A few months ago I bought a MSI GT780X-406US from Gentech (highly recommended btw, Ken was extremely helpful). I did have them do a clean install as well.

My question is how long should this laptop take to startup Windows? It seems slow to me (it's about the same speed as my 4-5 year old Asus). It takes over a minute and a half to even get to that Windows "wake up" sound.

My friend who has an old Asus G73 says his laptop takes well under a minute to startup.

I don't have a solid state drive or anything so I know it won't be extremely fast but I guess I'm confused because my friend just has a regular 7200rpm hard drive in his Asus same as mine. Yet my laptop is noticeably slower despite being a few years newer.

Is there someway I could speed up my startup (without having to purchase a new hard drive)? Maybe a driver of some kind?

ALLurGroceries makes a good suggestion, but also.....

I would not be so concerned with boot time comparisons, especially when comparing with older tech models. You could make such a comparisons with an identical model, and boot times can still vary. Bios settings, the OS, OS settings, system registry, system hardware, hardware drivers, system 'start-up' programs, loading system services, and even HDD levels of fragmentation can affect boot times. Only when you know ALL things are equal between notebooks, can you then make meaningful boot time comparisons.

Can you do something to improve boot times? YES!

My suggestion would be to insure your bios is set to 'Fast Boot', study up on 'Optimizing WIN 7', and keep system 'Start-ups', 'Services', and HDD fragmentation to a minimum.

Don't worry about what that old Asus technology is doing, just insure your MSI GT780 is the best it can be!

    I hope this helps.....

    :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was just worried something might be wrong with my laptop but if it's normal for times to vary like striker said then I suppose I won't worry too much.

    Thanks again!

Yeah well, it still wouldn't hurt to study-up on optimizing WIN 7. ;)

    Have Fun & ENJOY!
