Thanks for the tip. Really looking forward to seeing pics of this laptop.

So the max height is about 1.18" approximately, i think. Not bad.

Do you think we could expect a mini review with pics, covering a few things like battery life, keyboard, etc?

I'm really considering getting that notebook when it comes out but have a few questions. When you finally get it, I just want to know if there is room to install the wifi module and the turbo memory module?

Also, another question, since this laptop has 2 pci-e slots .... in case i don't want robson, do you think that there will be other peripherals that may be connected to the available slot?

The spec says 4400mAh for the 8 Cell battery. Could someone tell me either the Voltage or the Watt Hour number of the battery? If you've got one, how long can it play DVDs?

    Thanks

Edit: Thanks to rkcomputer.net, it's a 14.4V which works out to be 63.36 Watt Hours.
I really wish they would offer something closer to the Dell M1210's 85WHr 9 cell.

I have to buy this laptop now .... i thought the lid was glossy and that was holding me back .... but now i know that its not! :D

And the pictures are simply tooooooo hot!

Though there is just one gripe left : Battery Life.

Could anyone tell me what 63.36 Watt Hours compares to in real life hours?

Reviews of the s262/1057 had the 8 cell getting over 3 hours
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2948

However, another review of the s262 had the 4 cell getting over 2 hours
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-Megabook-S262.1293.0.html

I'm guessing it'll be any where between 3 and 4+ hours depending on what your settings are and what you're doing. It also depends on the components you choose to put in the thing. For example some hard drives can consume a whole extra Watt compared to others at idle.

battery life would be important so i'll probably go for a 5400 rpm drive.

Also I really want the T7300 (4MB L2) with it but will it affect battery life noticeably as compared to the T7100?

Edit: Also since this is a newer platform than the S262 don't you think better battery life can be expected over the previous generation?

If you have the time you can look up each hard drive's power consumption numbers on the manufacturer's website. The >1W difference I quoted was between two 5400RPM drives of the same capacity and interface. I highly doubt the power consumption difference will be that large between the T7100 and T7300. Yes Santa Rosa is supposed to and has been shown to give better battery life but I have no idea how much of an improvement it will be in the 1221/pr200.

that's quite crazy about the two 5400 rpm drives having different power consumptions. I guess some more research is in order. Thanks for the info.

Did a quick check on the 1222 model for battery life and playing a dvd we were able to get 3 hours and 20 miniutes out of a full charge. The turions tend to consume a little more power so the 1221 should go a bit longer. I will have an answer for you by tuesday evening.

This is the config we used:

    MS-1222
    TL-66
    Radeon Xpress 1270
    4GB Kingston
    Seagate 100GB 7200RPM SATA
    MS-6877 Wireless
    8 Cell (4400mAh) stock battery
Vista Ultimate in Power saver mode-stock settings, made no changes to power plan or ATI Control.

I'm very interested in the PR200 as well! Would like to use it in the train, but also to play HD-content through HDMI. So if anybody has tried the HDMI output please let me know the quality, and if this machine is capable of processing 720p/1080i/1080p... (using x264 e.g.).

From what I've read the x3100 graphics solution is quite capable of handling 1080p resolution so i guess that you should be able to process HD video and be able to view it through the HDMI port.

As dolto said yes it does, this is from the intel GMA product brief:

Intel Graphics allow the PC to connect to a wide range of digital displays and resolutions, including the latest digital interfaces like HDMI. In addition, Intel Graphics
    support all high-definition resolutions, including 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

    Here is the link:

    http://download.intel.com/products/graphics/intel_graphics_guide.pdf :D

The intel X3100 is not a bad graphics solution, it actually scores just below the NV 8400 in the Vista experience index.

In 3DMark benchmarking, it comes very close to the scores of the previous generation dedicated graphic cards, which is very nice. Once the updated drivers come out, as Goren said performance should improve by a ways, so it should actually out perform stuff like the Go7400 and X1400. Coming from Intel, thats pretty good!

This seems like a very nice laptop, but the only thing that concerns me is the 4.5lb weight. There are many larger screened/higher specced notebooks that weigh less (Sony SZ, Asus Z35 and W7, XPS M1210 and M1330, etc), so I was wondering what exactly made it weigh so much. Is it the 8 cell battery?

Hmm, the 8 cell doesn't seem to offer exceptional battery life or anything though. The Lenovo X61 with similar specs and the 8 cell battery can hit 5 hours pretty easily, and DCF quotes 4-5 hours in his review.

    RobM...

Hello! Can you tell me what the case / LCD lid are made of? Are they metal / aluminium/magnesium alloy like the S271/MS1057(8)? I currently own an S271 and love that its case / LCD lid are so rugged.

If the ms-1221 is as well built as my current S271 I'll probably order one from you ASAP!

    Thanks in advance!

Interesting notebook and reasonable price. I am kind of dissapointed to see the Ms-1221 does not come in white like the old 12 inch models. But there is really nothing wrong with the classic silver and black. No glossy lid is a plus as I am about fed up with that trend. It is however heavir than even the Lenovo 3000 V200 with the 8 cell battery. Looking at MSI's webbie I see there are some other interested looking new models. I'll be interesting to see which ones make it to America. The GX700 looks like a real show stopper. I also wonder what ever happened to the 12 incher announced in the newsbits a while back... this doesn't look like it, I'll have to go search around so I can dig up a model number for it.

I think the white model is called the MSI PR200.

Can you guys tell me about this MS-1221 sold here for $631.64?

    http://www.monstronix.com/122115001-p-370453.html

    MSI COMPUTER 122115-001
    Intel Core 2,Black,Intel GM965+ICH8-M,DDR2 533/667 SODIMM,2GB,12.1 inch,10/100/1000-Gigabit,DVD Super-Multi,MS-1221

Monstronix says they have no information on it and hope to get it when they get the models in stock on the 28th. It seems from the product description that 2 gigs of ram are included? Do you think the hard drive, processor, etc are included? Thanks.

The bottom cover is magnesium; it actually says Mg at one spot. The lid feels similar so it's probably the same thing. Everything else is plastic, not exactly the best plastic in the world but I'm a bit spoiled.

Rob / RKC was very responsive and very detail oriented. So props to them.

In stock in Holland in some shops, and luckily the price has come down again to about 1000 euros.

Seems the 1000 euro is an error again.... Prices are going up again to about 1300. What a mess the MSI distributor here in Holland makes

does anyone know a good reputable website that sells the MSI-1221 barebone? the 1221 looks awesome and I really want to build my own laptop based on that.
