First time posting so I hope I don't offend anyone.

A mate of mine has a bit of trouble with his MSI GX700 bought from company that buys them as whitebooks and configures them.

Now the other day he had been using the notebook at home and he the pack it in his backpack. He went to the university and continued working with it. He shut it off and packed it up again to go home later that day but when he came home the notebook wouldn't start anymore.

I got the day after and tried the usual things i know may work like unplugging all power and holding the power button for a few minutes and the replugging it. I also tried booting it with not RAM or HDD still no luck.

The screen is just black doesn't even light up. The fan spins and the HDD led blicks a few times and the continues to have a very feint glow.

I read on some MSI page that unplugging the CMOS battery would reset the bios and allow the system to start again. I unplugged the CMOS battery (man what a pain to get to it) and left the notebook for 30 mins or so and the reassembled it but with no luck. Still no startup.

It doesn't seem that the notebook complets its post boot as the disk never starts working and no sounds are played.

Does anyone have any clue as to what may have happened and what to do about it? I'd appreciate some advice as I have run out of ideas to try. Thanks in advance.

If it still has a warranty you should just return it. It may be the motherboard or the CPU. If it doesn't give errors when the rams are out it might be the motherboard.

Have you tried an external monitor?
