First off I would like to say I am very very new to the PC gaming scene and am thankfull for all the users and their opinions on this site that helped me make my decision on to what laptop I should buy. But on to my problem.......

I have been updating my GPU drivers for the month and everything had been going fine until I realized you need to uninstall your previous driver after you install a new one. I went onto the ATI CCC in an attempt to uninstall my old drivers but I believe I somehow managed to uninstall my ATI CCC and all of the drivers. Now my GPU does not function and reinstalling the ATI CCC and the new driver does not seem to fix the problem

I was wondering if anyone could give me some instructions on how to fix this problem (pretend like your explaining it to a 12 year old).

I never bother to uninstall the old drivers, personally.

There's a chance not removing the old drivers could cause trouble, but it seems to me that removing drivers is even more likely to cause trouble. I put my trust in ATI's setup utility - surely it's most likely to do things the right way?

For problems like this, System Restore should be your first point of call. Otherwise, I'm not sure of much that can be done apart from uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

Should always keep your drivers clean, now days isn't any exception, best to have control on whats in your machine I'd say.

I agree with the advice in this guide:
"You should use Driver Sweeper whenever you install a new card in your system. Particularly if you are upgrading from nVidia to ATi, as often the two company's driver remnants can cause problems. You don't need to use Driver Sweeper when upgrading drivers, you can usually just install the new drivers on top of the old ones without issue. However if you are having significant driver problems, it is well worth uninstalling the drivers, running Driver Sweeper and reinstalling the latest drivers."

ATI might not have the best reputation for drivers, but even so I sincerely doubt they would release a package that is obviously meant to install over the top of previous driver versions if it didn't work properly.
