I just purchased MSI's GX633 and have a few questions.

    Specs
    AMD Athlon X2 @2.0ghz
    4 gigs of ram
    320 gig HDD
    Nvidia GeForce GT 130M (512mb DDR3)
    Vista Home Premium.

My question is is up with the partitions?

I try to install programs and games to D but get directory errors. Any help?

    here is the error message

    How very odd :S,

You could try disable uac, but its handy, can you right click and set permissions for the HDD's?? (Through properties blah blah)

If not we should be able to merge the partitions, i know a tool capable of it.

Welcome to Notebookreview, we shall correct this problem. ^^

would merging the partitions be a good idea? i have a three year warranty through MSI. Could this void the warranty?

No ofcourse not hehe, and yes its a good idea for this situation, it would just stick OS + Free space together, you could contact MSI if you wanted to, the likely hood is, that they would instruct you on what to do.

The easist thing to do (this is what I did), is right-click on computer in the start menu, go to manage (computer management).

Under the storage tab, click disk management. Right-click the D:\ partition, and select shrink volume. Then just extend your C:\ partition onto whatever you've shrinked.

Let me know if this works :)

    >.> are you using a 64 bit operating system? Since you have 4gb of ram you probably do and that error you are getting is something I used to get in 64 bit operating systems with steam. Right click on the steam installer and run change the properties to compatibility mode then run it as admin.

at the risk of sounding stupid, how do you check if you have a 32 or 62 bit OS [IMG]?

click start menu, click programs, click accessories, click system tools, click system information. A window will popup and next to where it says system, it will say x86 or x64. If it says x86 you have a 32 bit system and 64 is a 64 bit.

Copy everything over from the D:\ partition to the C:\ partition. Again, open up the computer management, then the disk management menu. Delete D:\ partition, then merge C:\ partition over the empty space.

So i called MSI and that is the way they partition all of their HDD's now. So i just deleted the D partition and merged the empty space over to C, so my "problem" is fixed. Thanks for all the help

What's your initial impressions of the GX633? I was thinking of picking one up since it does not seem like the GX623 is ever coming out.

I love it. Its fast, looks good, and runs great. I have played bioshock, and crysis and no lag, or anything. It runs pretty cool, but i still hook up my chill pad when gaming. I love MSI's eco feature that they have on this model. When im in classes (im currently in college) i put it in turbo battery mode, and get about 2 hours and 15 min on a single charge from a 6 cell battery.

The only real issues i have had is with the partitions, and i havent been able to register it through MSI yet, which means that i cant get the windows 7 upgrade. The reason is because they havent added this model to their list yet. I have called MSI and am waiting on an answer for the registration issue.

It always bugs me when companies release products and do not update their website. Asus and MSI are the worst I have seen at this. Asus has several models that have literally been on the market for months and they are still not on their website.

Good luck with any service from MSI. My impressions so far ( and it is making me seriously reconsider buying one of their systems) is that their customer service is little to none. I literally have held on their customer service line for over 30 minutes 3 separate times trying to find out info about their products and have yet to talk to anyone.

Well as for their customer service i have no complaints. I got through to a service rep in a reasonable time, and they were very polite. We'll see how my my opinion changes as this registration issue plays out.

The registration will probably work when amazon and excaliberpc start getting their GX633s in stock. They both have them listed for 749.99 as a preorder. Frostycomputers is the only place I have seen that has them.
