Hey guys, I realized today NCIX CA posted that the GT70 is up for sale. I am wondering if the GT70-008US and the GT70-002US are similar? I know the processor, graphics card, sound system and all that should be the same. From what I can tell, they're identical... ( the 008-base model anyway) ( i don't know... would the 002 would have a gimped gtx 670 card...?) Can you guys really quickly check out the specs and tell me if there's anything different between the two...? Thanks !!

    Do they offer any customization?

If I were you I'd order the GT70 from GentechPC or another reseller listed in post #1 of the GT70 owners lounge.

When you customize with a reseller the unit is tested before shipping.

Ordering from the likes of Newegg,Amazon,NCIX etc gets you a unit that has not been seen since it was put in the box at the factory and may have gotten banged around a bit.

I have thought of customizing at gentech or other resellers of course. Thing is, this is a huge investment for a student like myself, and I would like to know more about respective laptop models before buying it. Is there a difference between the resellers' common base model, gt70 008 and the similar one available in Canada, the gt70 002? Thanks again!

I plan on buying a GT70 from NCIX as well. What you could do is wait for them to list the unit for sale. Then you can see the details and look for any differences.

Wow, I didn't even notice the expandable ram difference there. Maybe one's meant to be sold in the US and the other, Canada. Anyhow, I also noticed that the base gt780dx model is similarly priced as the GT70. link below:

    GT70: Newegg.ca - MSI G Series GT700NC-002US Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M
    GT780DX: Newegg.ca - MSI G Series GT780DX-406US Notebook Intel Core i7 2670QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory DDR3 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M

Any insights on this? I mean, a newer product is SUPPOSED to be more expensive. Same amount of ram, but an 'upgraded' processor, 'repackaged graphics card' ( still newer, right?) and same HDD space. hmm.

I bought the 780DX--277US model from NCIX. Looking now shows i paid less than it lists for now. Other than it being out of stock the thing screams speedwise and the support was OK.

LOL I tend to be an "early adopter," so IMO newer is always better. :p Ivy Bridge processors have a better integrated graphics process than the previous generation. The GT70 processor is also slightly faster...The price difference is so negligible I'd definitely go with the newer hardware.
