Interesting...do you think the AMD Radeon HD 6870 would bee faster than the GTX460?
-
These information are speculations, as they only appear on the one Web page that the OP has linked.

-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
They actually make sense, but lets forget the part about the 1080p panel
-
HD6870M shouldn't end up AMD's fastest mobile this series the HD6970M should be. The HD6870M may in fact end up being a rebrand of Mob HD5870.

-
-
I don't think you will see these before Apple's products.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I just dont believe it, btw Arioch how are your temps? I have the same setup except in the chassis of the ex625 and the oc is 700/1000
although I cant play COD with that, otherwise all the other games perform admirably -
-
bunch of numbers that have no meaning.

Will either of these have switchable/optimus graphics capabilities, since SB has the IGP? Also, will basically all lappies with a SB cpu have switchable graphics, regardless of which discrete GPU it actually houses?
Can't wait! Hooray for long battery life + super gaming power!! <-- correct this statement, if it's not true.
Thanks! -

Idk what AMD is developing in 6xxx gen, but Optimus don't need multiplexers. All output is running through the IGP. FYI
Interessting is the IGP in the new quadcore i7. -

Still can't wait!

Hmm. I'm not very excited about these upcoming laptops, if the specs are true.

I would love it if MSI made a 16" notebook with SLI/xfire -
-
If people start getting rid of that damn outdated and useless optical drive there would be SLI/Xfire setups in 15inch notebooks.
-

I agree, if you need an optical drive, can just use an external one through esata.

Why not
Just a quick ebay search shows a few external blu-ray drives.
The only problem I could see is having enough power for the drive (could use AC power if needed), apart from that it should be perfect through esata. -

I read that right now drives are still faster through esata than USB3.0.
And since the GT/GX660 has both esata and USB3.0, I guess the 680 will also. -
Where the frig is the GT/GX 760 already.
-
GX680 is such a waste, if the 6870m is the 5870m.

Amen. Lets give some credit where credit is due to ATI/nVidia sticking in some top-level single GPUs in 15 inch form factors.
I even saw some of those benchmarks on that GTX 470 over on the Sager forums. Impressive stuff in a 15" form factor. Perhaps a bit higher performance-per-dollar than the 5870, but just a great architecture to build on.
As not a huge fanboy of either company, I think it's completely safe to say that the Mobility 5870 from AMD is the hands-down winner of mobile GPU of the year for 2010. Introduced in January, and still the 2nd best (I do my part to ignore the 480m where the price and power required is just silly) GPU on the market after a year.
Good stuff. I remember three years ago, when I got my ASUS 13.3" and it actually had a DEDICATED CARD in it, how big a deal that was. Three years from now, 13.3" form-factors will have something that knocks a 5870 out of the water.
The product wars lead to the consumers being the winners....
(Unless you were waiting for a 5xx or 6xxx series GPU, oops.) -
These MSI's are looking really good though, if their price can be low.

appears be cool this notebooks.
it has a dynaudio sound too ?

MSI announced a PCMark Vantage benchmark of 18,162 points on the GT680.
MSI Global ? Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more -
Then will the GT680 bee out?. 18162 points in vantage.....sick
-

That's PCmark vantage, not 3dmark vantage.
So it's not that impressive (still very good). -
18000 points in PCMark Vantage seems too high to me, at least for the expected specifications... -
" The fastest gaming notebook ever to be unveiled at CES 2011"
They claimed the same thing, at the release of that notebook which had a GTS 250M GDDR3.
Just keep it real. Lol @ running PCMark Vantage, as if that means anything.

So, difference in game performance will not be significant comparing GX660R/GT663 with GT680/GX680?
-
-
Will the QM67 allow switchable graphics options on these lappies?
-
Intel doesn't make a QM67 chipset.
The spec page for the MSI GT680 is up now and it lists a PM 67 chipset.
http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT680.html#/?div=Specification
Problem with that is Intel doesn't make a PM67 chipset either. The MSI is likely using the P67 chipset like the new Alienware M17x.
The P67 chipset doesn't support Sandy Bridge's IGP so no switchable graphics. -
So what's the name of the chipset that supports SB's IGP+switchable graphics? -
HM65 or HM67.
It's still up to the notebook manufacturer to support switchable graphics though. -
I got an early sample of the GT680R and AIDA64 reports the chipset as an HM67 (more info coming soon).
-
I guess that's why they put the disclaimer on the bottom of the page.
There is no mention of Optimus or switchable graphics on the GT680 feature page and that's a feature they tend to highlight on the MSI notebooks that do support it. -
I mean, do owners of gaming lappies not travel or anything? Why is there no perceived need for longer than 3 hour battery life? -
.
It seems your are set on battery life, so you might consider droping from the high end gpus, and just go with mid end like Acer 4820TG, i bet they gona refresh it soon, maybe ATI 6500 and Intel SB.
