    Today's announcement,

    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=949

    Of note,

With a 5730 and switchable graphics, this laptop might prove to be a winner.

Great find Tslp! And switchable graphics is also really good news, we know what features MSI will incorporate in more machines :D!

    Again, good job man (Y).

    Thank you kindly

I've been hunting down news on this model for awhile now. Was holding off on an Asus N61JQ purchase for more news on the MSI GX640 and GE600. Great to see the switchable graphics confirmed. The i5-430m is not the same as the i7-720qm, but i'm more than willing to sacrifice some processing for lower power consumption, lower temps, and more battery life.

I've been in the market for my first laptop since the Holidays. Hopefully, these hit the market soon so we can start getting some early reviews.

I agree, it is good, and the compromise between power and performance, definately leaves users in a good position for what they specifically want!

Personal i love performance, but i do tend to use my battery quite alot these days, getting more then 2-3 hours light tasking on a laptop would be nice haha.

    Hi Guys :D

Yesterday I've received a GE600 sample, so if You have any questions regarding it - hit me :D Haven't been doing much testing so far - just 3DMark06 in both stock and after OC. AFAIR @ stock it scored 8026 in 1280x768 resolution, and if you're curious about the OC, have a look:

The card hasn't reached it's limits yet, so I'll torment it a little bit more later.

    Cheers.

    Nope, it doesn't. There're 3 USB2.0 ports + one eSATA+USB.

Are all of these new Gx Series notebooks coming out 16:10 or 16:9 ratios? I'm very interested in this GE600 or perhaps even the GT660... Thanks!

I don't have a working camera at the moment, but if you've seen EX625, than you've seen GE600, cause the case shape is almost identical :p Thanks to it's dark brown finish it looks more - let's say - professional, and feels more solid too (despite a little flex in the lid). Switchiable graphics works pretty well, the process takes about 1-2 seconds, and you can't perform it when the Internet Explorer's on (sorry 'bout that, had to download Chrome somehow :p). Tried to update GPU driver, but after the installation, I was forced to try system restore also :p Maybe they'll fix it in production model. Keyboard's quite nice - similar to what ASUS N51Tp had - flat key profile, but unfortunately it's not a chiclet. Cooling sounds pretty reasonable, it emmits a lower frequency noise than EX625. Maximum temperature I've seen was 84 degree, and that's after some serious OC'ing.

    It's a 1366x768, and that's it's biggest flaw so far. Can't understand why they can't put a 1600x900 or something.

From what I know - You can't. I have a sample unit from MSI for a review at purepc.pl ;)

This machine has taken the lead in the runnings for my "next laptop" but something doesn't add up bagienny, you said the screen is "1366x768" but quoting the MSI website... crap, it's not on the website. Ok well I could have sworn it was a 1080P screen on it, '1366x768' is Netbook territory which doesn't make much sense, especially on a machine which is specced like this. Infact on a 16" screen it makes no sense at all.

That also somewhat negates my main question which would have been "what is the screen like" but if it's only 1366x768 then I'm not interested and if that's not the final screen then the question is moot anyway because it wouldn't be representative of the final screen.

Are you sure that's the screen that will be in the final one? Hell, I'd settle for 1680x900, just not 1366x768.

The manual confirms 1366x768, what the hell were they thinking? This laptop was perfect with that exception but that's put me off completely :( Time to keep looking.

Any news here? A small review would be really really nice ;)

Can you say a bit more about noise and cooling? How is the gfx switching thing working and what about running time in battery mode (with 5730 & with integrated Intel GPU) ?

I am looking for a new notebook with switchable graphics and came upon
this and Asus N82jv. Having a hard time deciding. I plan on doing everything from web browsing/gaming/visual studio. I do prefer the better gaming machine, but I am also concerned with realiability. The GE600 seems
to be coming out with a 3 year limited warrenty/1 year accidental.

I hear that these will be released Early April according to Frostycomputers.
My question is since this model shares a similiar case as the EX625, will it
have the same fan problem that makes loud noizes and may stop working.
There were alot in the ex625 thread and thats why i wanted to bring it up.
