So a few days ago i could overclock my gpu fine. But now i cant seem to overclock it. When try the clocks just reset back to normal. Does anyone know what the problem is? BTW i have used msi after burner and ati overdrive and both dont work. I am on cats 10.6 and i am not willing to upgrade to 10.8 because it is unstable.

I just installed 10.8 and nothing seemd to change. Crysis: WH still plays and looks the same as before. :)
    No errors!

I'm not sure what driver I had before, but overdrive still works the same as before.

I'm just waiting for my MX-3 to arrive. Then I'll use it to get the 700/1000 like you did, I hope! I like the sound of having a 5870 in the nice 15.4" size laptop(That's why I didn't buy the 17" GX740). :D

I have come across users OCing the Mobility 5850 to beyond 800MHz core in the GX640. That's nearly the performance of a desktop 5770 card (RAM clocks aside...).

Wow! To get that, I think you would need the help of every mod out there lol! :D
-MX-3 thermal paste for the gpu and cpu.
-Remove thermal pads and put MX-3 on the gddr5 ram.
-Drill holes in the bottom plate or just take it off.
    -Good laptop cooler.
    -Copper shim for the gpu.
    -small heatsinks wherever thay fit.
Thats all I can think of and I'll most likely use all of them in the future. :)

-Remove thermal pads and put MX-3 on the gddr5 ram.
    -Copper shim for the gpu.
    These two exclude one another.

Anyway, I use all the above mods except for the copper shim and they do work. Each mod lowered my temps by nice couple of degrees, leaving more room for overclocking. My current clocks and voltages are in my sig. My laptop is the GX740 though...

Marecki, I am pretty sure it does work because I have tested it before with np8690, but maybe the MSI does not support it?

Why wouldn't they both work together?
    Is this why?:
Do you think the copper shim will raise the heatsink to much?
There are thinner shims and replacing some paste for copper is a better way to transfer heat!

Everything counts and it all adds up lol :D
