any sounds as if Windows is loading? Do you see a BIOS splash screen or nothing at all?

Remove the power cord, pull the battery. Press the power button for 10 seconds.

Replug the power cord. Start? Does it?

What was the last thing you have done with the notebook before it went to this black screen? You may want to double check your Ram is tightly inserted in the system. If you just built the system you may also want to check your CPU.

I don't understand how people can do bad flahses. It's such an easy process.

Are you certain you had the correct updated bios? Trying to flash to an incorrect bios is a guarantee way to kill the laptop.

    sounds like bad bios flash.

leave the cmos unplugged for about an hour and also remove the main system battery and leave unplugged during that time. see if that helps

How did you flash the bios? Manually using a dos disk or using the bios update utility?

Where did you get the bios?

You say the computer boots, but you do not see anything...how do you know it i boots? Do you eventually hear Windows boot up (windows start)?

Or do fans just spin? Or lights light?

Try removing the GPU, take it out re apply paste and then re seat it.. I had this happen once and that fixed the problem.. I am not saying it will fix yours but its sure worth a try..

I went back through sbhawks posts and apparently he had this issue before. He had to remove and put back the cpu and tighten it. I can't quite recall if it was sbhawk or someone else that was arrested for buying and returning laptops at bestbuy with parts missing.

my bad it was bestbuy. I had a two laptops from bestbuy before, when I bought a second 6860fx laptop it had a faulty hardrive, guy booted it up and watched it crash. >.> I think they just check to confirm it doesn't work. So a laptop with say no cpu won't boot at all lol.

    1. Yes I did have a problem of the video not posting and that is true. It was because I did not seat the CPU properly.

    2. The last thing I would do is steal something, let alone try to scam a major computer distributor company.

Apparently Espada has notified me that the laptop was stolen. I was unaware of this, although the chances of having a stolen laptop that was purchased on eBay a few months ago was pretty high considering an entire warehouse was cleaned out overnight.

I have bought and sold MANY products on this forum and have been a member for quite some time. I know my name has been brought up in this thread for the very reason that I sold it to Espada. However, since this whole laptop stolen situation has been brought up, the first thing that comes to my mind is my reputation.

I think the last time I stole something was when I was 10 at CVS. I tried to steal a pack of baseball cards..... and I got caught......... and I cried begging them not to tell my mom.

well im pretty sure that my cpu is dead right??? the comp turns on and without a working processor the comp wouldnt even turn on if im not mistaken if i can get some assurance that its either the bios chip/motherboard and not the cpu then that would be great before i decide to order the parts.. and the other thing is if replacing the bios chip will help is it hard to take it out since its soldered in.

I'm confused, you said you got the bios from the forums, if putting the cpu back in doesn't fix anything I would say its a bad bios flash. Unfortunatly my experience with the cmos for this laptop, is that it only resets your bios settings and not back to original bios. So removing the cmos battery will not fix this. You said in another post that the lights do come on, so you might be able to do a blind flash.

you do it without being able to see anything. Unfortunately, I forgot you removed the cmos battery, which reset your boot setttings. So unless you can also go into your bios and change your boot settings, its no longer possible for you to do a bios flash again.

Why should that preclude him from doing a blind flash?

When you flashed your computer last time, how did you do it? Win Flash? USB thumb drive? Within Windows? What procedure did you follow?

Being able to blind flash a bios is one thing, being able to navigate your boot menu and set your computer to boot up using your flash drive is another.

With a reset bios, the default boot order should be cd-rom first or second. Even if the usb drive is first, with no drive in the usb port, it should boot to a cd-rom

Make a cd-rom with, write a autoexec.bat file to load the flash and as long as the flash utility does not require user interaction and you're up and running.

Specifcally, you never mentioned if you heard windows load, you never mentioned the process you used (winflash? flash from does? was it interactive?(meaning, did you have to type in any commands or was it automatic after it started)

i dont think i heard windows flash.... it was kinda automatic after it started...
but usually before then if i put like a flash drive or anything it would boot up to the flash drive.. but now it seems like its not doing it at all.

Brotha, did you ever tried removing the battery and press/hold the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity? Anyhow, it might have been too late for that.

That happened to me -- blank screen, the computer was working, booting, lights blinking. I did the discharge first, but did not solve the problem. Solution? Brought my laptop for repairs. Problem? LCD got busted.

Before you go halfway Frankenstein on your machine, have you ever thought checking the graphics card or the LCD panel since there is activity going on with your laptop. The only thing missing is the display.

I still don't know what you did to flash the bios...give me a step by step.

Were you in windows? Running from a bootdisk of some sort? When the flash was taking place, did you have to hit enter to initiate or complete hte process.

To do a BLIND flash bios, you need to recreate those steps either automatically or with a blank screen.
