-
any sounds as if Windows is loading? Do you see a BIOS splash screen or nothing at all?
Remove the power cord, pull the battery. Press the power button for 10 seconds.
Replug the power cord. Start? Does it? -

What was the last thing you have done with the notebook before it went to this black screen? You may want to double check your Ram is tightly inserted in the system. If you just built the system you may also want to check your CPU.
-
gerry tried that nothin still comes up!!!!!
i was flashing the latest bios and i rebooted when it was finished and theres notin on the screen!!!!!!!! -
do you see the msi startup bios scree or no? if not sounds like a bad bios flash.

I don't understand how people can do bad flahses. It's such an easy process.
Are you certain you had the correct updated bios? Trying to flash to an incorrect bios is a guarantee way to kill the laptop. -
Could be a dead GPU. You might want try and reset it.
Happened to me.(Not the 1651!)
Does it boot up at all! -
the computer boots up i see nothing not even the bios page nothing its completely blank!
-
sounds like bad bios flash.
leave the cmos unplugged for about an hour and also remove the main system battery and leave unplugged during that time. see if that helps -
-
I'd say put it into the capable hands of the kind people at MSI. Somethings seriously wrong.
-
im trying to see if i can do it myself instead of it costing me about $100 or so to fix it.
-
If it wont even post i dont think there is anything we can do, except a hop flash from another 1651, but you dont really hear people doing that anymore. -
How did you flash the bios? Manually using a dos disk or using the bios update utility?
Where did you get the bios?
You say the computer boots, but you do not see anything...how do you know it i boots? Do you eventually hear Windows boot up (windows start)?
Or do fans just spin? Or lights light? -
hard drive makes sound lights go up fans turn on.... makes beeps sounds normal got the bios from here and flashed thru making a usb disc...
-
where is "here"
I would try to reflash the bios with a MSI supplied bios using the same method and cross your fingers -
-
here is these forums and got the drivers from the msi site...yea nacr05 im going to try that if my last year a+ teacher doesnt find out how to fix it..
-
-
nacros tried doing video card didnt work... try award/ami bios recovery see if that works!
-
everything has failed and msi will not take it for repair because it was stolen i did not know that!!!! bought it from a user on this forum!!!!!! How much do you think i can sell a broken mobo and 9600mgt MXM II for????? and does anyone have a spare mobo for msi 1651 for sale?
-
who did you buy the laptop from?
-
bought the laptop from SBHawk
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
doesn't rk do repairs?
and msi are idiots for the whole "its stolen" thing. -
I went back through sbhawks posts and apparently he had this issue before. He had to remove and put back the cpu and tighten it. I can't quite recall if it was sbhawk or someone else that was arrested for buying and returning laptops at bestbuy with parts missing.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
what kind of idiot does that? I mean, you would think a company would check the condition of a returned product. -
ive removed the ram, gpu, cpu , wifi card and even the cmos cables nothing still shows up tried ami i just ordered a sata floppy drive see if that will work with ami boot recovery if that doesnt work im screwed ima try rk....

2. The last thing I would do is steal something, let alone try to scam a major computer distributor company.
Apparently Espada has notified me that the laptop was stolen. I was unaware of this, although the chances of having a stolen laptop that was purchased on eBay a few months ago was pretty high considering an entire warehouse was cleaned out overnight.
I have bought and sold MANY products on this forum and have been a member for quite some time. I know my name has been brought up in this thread for the very reason that I sold it to Espada. However, since this whole laptop stolen situation has been brought up, the first thing that comes to my mind is my reputation.
I think the last time I stole something was when I was 10 at CVS. I tried to steal a pack of baseball cards..... and I got caught......... and I cried begging them not to tell my mom. -
yup im just seeing if rk can give me a replacement motherboard.. and msi talked to some guy named tom he understood what was going on and he was okay for selling me a motherboard replacement unlike the other technical ppl in msi who were saying nope it was stolen nothing to do with us..
-
well im pretty sure that my cpu is dead right??? the comp turns on and without a working processor the comp wouldnt even turn on if im not mistaken if i can get some assurance that its either the bios chip/motherboard and not the cpu then that would be great before i decide to order the parts.. and the other thing is if replacing the bios chip will help is it hard to take it out since its soldered in.
-
Where did you get this bios from? Please post a link.
-
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1529
here is the link and rorschach you think that its just the motherboard messed up or bios? and not the cpu.. -
-
how do i blind flash?
-
you do it without being able to see anything. Unfortunately, I forgot you removed the cmos battery, which reset your boot setttings. So unless you can also go into your bios and change your boot settings, its no longer possible for you to do a bios flash again.
-
ive only removed the cmos jumper cables does that count as the cmos battery????
-
I believe it does
-
Why should that preclude him from doing a blind flash?
When you flashed your computer last time, how did you do it? Win Flash? USB thumb drive? Within Windows? What procedure did you follow? -
-
With a reset bios, the default boot order should be cd-rom first or second. Even if the usb drive is first, with no drive in the usb port, it should boot to a cd-rom
Make a cd-rom with, write a autoexec.bat file to load the flash and as long as the flash utility does not require user interaction and you're up and running. -
okay well i looked at blind flashing and i came across this..
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread181387.html
if someone can give me links on what to download all the utilities to make a cd then i will be good to go and would taking the hdd and cd drive make the usb bootable??? -
Well, you never answered my questions, but I would download a DOS boot cd
http://www.bootdisks.us/ms-dos/5/ms-dos-bootable-cd-images.html
I would then use a program like ultraiso to add the flash utilty and bios, then add my own autoexec, bat to run the bios flash. -
what were the questions gerry?
-
Specifcally, you never mentioned if you heard windows load, you never mentioned the process you used (winflash? flash from does? was it interactive?(meaning, did you have to type in any commands or was it automatic after it started)
-
i dont think i heard windows flash.... it was kinda automatic after it started...
but usually before then if i put like a flash drive or anything it would boot up to the flash drive.. but now it seems like its not doing it at all. -
Brotha, did you ever tried removing the battery and press/hold the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity? Anyhow, it might have been too late for that.
That happened to me -- blank screen, the computer was working, booting, lights blinking. I did the discharge first, but did not solve the problem. Solution? Brought my laptop for repairs. Problem? LCD got busted.
Before you go halfway Frankenstein on your machine, have you ever thought checking the graphics card or the LCD panel since there is activity going on with your laptop. The only thing missing is the display. -
I still don't know what you did to flash the bios...give me a step by step.
Were you in windows? Running from a bootdisk of some sort? When the flash was taking place, did you have to hit enter to initiate or complete hte process.
To do a BLIND flash bios, you need to recreate those steps either automatically or with a blank screen. -
Burn the firmware to a disk, it surely all doesnt have to be done via usb drive does it?
-
and the way i flashed my bios was restarted my compwith my flashdrive in the usb it booted to my flash drive and i typed flash.bat it was flashing and for some reason i wasnt really thinking i pulled it out. (dont remember why i think i was high when doing this) but o well.. so now the screen doesn't come back on...
