From another thread, I heard that MSI's planned Turion X2 notebook will be the MS-1042. Does anyone know any other specs about it or have pictures?

no the roadmap file wich we got that info didn´t say anything about specs.

If i am not worng chaz posted today a picture of it in exposition on cebitt, i think that Cofeeshark has another pic in this forum about msi too.

The only thing we know so far is that it will feature AMD 1.6 X2 and will be 17".

grrrry, the reason i love MSI is they usually dont do stuff like this. a 17" monstrosity, with an awesome processor, and onboard graphics, wtf? really what is the deal with large laptops running no graphic power. to there credit at least it doesnt seem to be strictly a desktop replacement with no real gpu (its 17" but at least it has a fairly mobile processor)

it's just a lower budget office line at 17", not a bad idea. Office desktop replacements, for the most part, don't need discrete graphics solutions. Totally different market than the gamer.

MSI has provided an integrated graphics solution at each size, i think their line of notebooks is more complete than most manufacturers, with Intel and AMD solutions with and without dedicated gpus at each size, other than no dedicated graphics on the 12".

yes. i will also add that it´s easier to design a 17" laptop, and then design a 15". I think they have to do adjustments in order for everything to fit on it.

Dell did the same, first 1705 and thern 1505 (17" and 15").

This is not a surprise for me at all....

Sweet a MXM 7600GO + AMD X2, that's perfect for linux, just perfect.

I only hope that it has a half descent battery life...

They're releasing the Intel version first. They're prepping to launch it right now.

There's the L735 and the L745, MSI-1042 and 1037 or 1039. Don't ask me what is what, I keep mixing them up :D

Wait a second, the spec sheet doesn't mention MXM... They didn't happen too take it out did they? They made the model numbers more confusing. MS-171772?

Yes i know the model #'s are different, i was told that's the 1042??
I don't think they use the term mxm, their using (Graphics & Video Module ) if you look at the specs.

Anyone know how I can ask MSI for some clarification on MXM? It's something that is almost crucial to me (since I already have my eyes on another notebook that might have it). If they don't have it, it's likely that it's a no go for me...

On the other hand. I don't worry too much about the name. I think I got it down already. MS-171722. :)

If they put a 7900GS GPU in there (using the MXM slot that may or may not exist) I'd be interested, but otherwise I see no advantage over the HP dv9000z?

As per RK Computers the MS-171772 will be out in mid to late September. Just an FYI.

    AFAIK, they are MXM.

But I have another bit of info that you may not like. Spoke to a European MSI rep, and the MXM notebooks won't be there untill Oktober at least. I'd love for someone to contradict me, but that's the info I got.

Well, at least that's when Turion X2 prices are supposed to lower...
