Im sure im not the first to start a thread about this, but after playing with my laptop for a few days, i found that my temps have skyrocketed. im using speedfan, and it reports my hdd is almost always at 100 degrees f and my cpu is almost always over 120 F! i have installed AS3 on both the gpu and cpu. also, games running in 3d crash, and a high pitch winning can be heard comming from the speakers. I first experienced this playing HL2 and figured it was because the room i was in was hotter than it was inside the laptop, but after installing FEAR on my computer and playing it with almost all settings on high, it will crash after about 5 minutes, if im lucky. but if i play it with all the settings on low, i can get through more than an hour of playtime. So, like i said i took off the gunk that MSI bundles and noticed barely any of it was on the GPU, and after putting the AS3 on its doing the same thing! i have tightened as tight as i could all the screws along the cpu and gpu, pressed down on the heatsinks, the cpu gets covered just fine, but the GPU doesnt. These are my specs
    ms 1029 laptop w/
    3200+ mobile athlon 64 @65w
1 stick 256 mb kingston memory cas 3.0
1 stick memory 1 gb "otherbrand" memory cas 2.5
    x700 gpu w/ as3
    6200 rpm 60 gb hdd
now i know that the mobile athlon 64 isnt supposed to work according to msi and alot of people here, but one website who was reselling said that the msi 1029 supports the turion 25-35w procs and mobile athlon 64, i dont remember what the wattage specs were for that, and im not sure where that website went as i ripped up the print out i had.
What ive tried to do was reseat the hs over the gpu without cpu installed, but that didnt do anything but prove the cpu isnt any bigger than turion 25w procs and thats not the problem. i dont believe memory is a problem, even if the 1 gb stick isnt official memory and 2.5 cas latency because this has to do with temps.
I wanted to ask you professionals out there for your opinion and these are my apparent options:
Return mobile athlon 64 3200+ and replace with turion 64
return 10-29 and get send back another from Buy.com, since they dont do money back returns, just replacements.
Thanks guys, i wish i could have given you video card temps but i dont know of any program that does, and i wish the bios would tell you proc temps and fan speeds from boot up, maybe in a bios update?
well Thanks for looking and possible helping with this problem!

i hope you realize, 100/120 F is quite normal. if it were 100 C, then that would be a problem. i also believe people have run into problems with removing the thermal pads off the computer b/c the heatsink was not having proper contact with gpu/cpu. and there should be a noticeable temp decrease by switching to a turion.

    3200+ mobile athlon 64 @ 65w.............................

Notebook Spec For Processor :processor Supports Socket 754 Mobile AMD Sempron™ 25 Watt and Turion™64 MT processors

All you need is the correct processor.

Also you cannot use AS compound on the GPU, You must use the thicker thermal pads.

what if the thermal pad supplied on the x700 gpu wasnt making a proper connection, i mean there was hardly an indication that the gpu even made any contact at all! i would have taken pictures but unfortunatly my batteries have been dead for a week now and i have yet to find my charger ... it seems like the AS is making a better connection, and a guy in some other thread with high heat problems slapped some AS on the gpu, as well as his cpu, but why again is it not good to use on the gpu? i will be sending the cpu back to replace with a lower wattage turion, but i wonder if i should send the MS-1029 back to the place where i got it and hope another one comes with a better connection to the gpu.

the MSI site did say it supports turion 25-35w cpus and mobile athlon 64 cpus, the keyword here is "did".
also, it doesn't matter what you use, thermal pad or AS paste, its just personal pref.

try reinstalling your heatsink with a fresh dab of AS.

checkout http://www.omegadrivers.net/ for video drivers, i'm using the latest version without a problem.

when you heard the "high pitched sound" was the volume maxed or close to it? could just be the soundcard, as all intergrated cards suffer from crosstalk in one form or another.

also, i would try running the system with one stick of RAM, mixing brands and speeds can cause problems.
