    Hello everybody,

    My first thread here ^^
I would like to upgrade my MSI MS-16f2-012 CPU/GPU and RAM from:

    CPU - i7 2670qm
GPU - Ge Force GTX 570M
    RAM - 16GB 1333 DDR3

    to:

    CPU - i7 2860qm
GPU - Ge Force GTX 580M
    RAM - 32GB 1600 DDR3

Now I wanted to ask you several things regarding this upgrade.

First: Is it worth it? Would I see much of a difference while gaming (Skyrim for instance)?

Second: Thermal compounds and thermal pads:
I would be using IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound for the CPU and for the GPU which is I think one of the best (if not the best) to lower the temp as possible as it gets... Any thoughts?
I saw that there are also Thermal pads needed for the "black parts" on the graphic card. Now I was searching for the Thermal Pads and I found Phobya Pads that have thermal conduction of 7W/mk. These would be perfect to install, however I have no idea how THICK the Thermal pads should be.
Does anyone have any experience with the thickness of the Thermal pads that are used for the graphic card? The ones I could buy are 0.5mm or 1.5mm thick.
I am in a bit of a dilemma here, because I assume that if I take too thick ones, the thermal paste won´t conduct the GPU with the thermal plate and therefore the temperatures will rocket.
If the thermal pad is too thin, it won´t probably connect the black parts with the thermal pad correctly with the same effect...

I have already installed a 128GB Crucial SSD as a primary HDD so no improvements there to achieve :)

I am using the unlocked BIOS V3.0P and the Fan Control Tools mentioned in this forums.

    Thanks a lot!

The 580GTX gives you about 30% better framerates than the 570gtx. As for the rest:

CPU: No difference in gaming (maybe 2%).
RAM: 16gb is already overkill. 32gb will make no difference at all.

Ok thanks for the reply... won´t it be easier to OC the 570M with for instance MSI afterburner then? I mean with 650 CPU / 1300 Shader and 1650 Memory clock..? sounds better than the 580M...
I have not much experience in OC Notebooks so thats the reason I am asking...

You can always overclock 570m, but don't forget that you can overclock 580m too. As for your listed upgrades, I think that you already have balaced gaming system. If money isn't a problem for you, then 580m is best option.

    CPU - no point
    GPU - no point
RAM - no point, in fact you are already twice what is technically needed.

Please return with ivy bridge and kepler/Southern islands. Should be about 1-2 months.

Pad width is the thinnest you can get for the GPU.

20% at stock, 10-15% once both are overclocked.

What's the cost of the upgade vs a new notebook with the newest upgraded parts after subtracting what you get from a sale of your present unit.

IMO,keep what you have until Haswell arrives.
