Is an oc'd 5850 comparable if not same to a mobility 5870? both to 700mhz

I asked this a few times nobody really knew, now that people actually have the gx740 wanted to see.

They have all the same other specs (assuming its the gddr5 version, which I think everyone has) so it should be equal.

You've got to dig deep into your threads to find the answer haha

Several of us have OC'd to 5870 clocks and we get vantage scores that are equal to that of the 5870 so I would say yes, that can be made equal. It's just whether you think the chassis can dissipate the extra heat.

I don't have one, I'd run the test for you but right now I'm at school with no AC and things are been humid and hot lately. Would prefer not to do any OC'ing in this environment.

Maybe ask kosti he's been OC-ing quite a bit

They are very comparable when OC'd. I OC'd mine to 700/1000 and got P7623 in Vantage. A GX740 with the 5870 and an i5-430m scored P7719 according to notebookcheck.com:

Notebookcheck: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

Yes, it's comparable to a 5870MR when OCed, though a 5870MR at stock clock. 5870MR will still OC better and get easily 900/1100 though.

There isn't enough information on 5850 overclocking yet, so you're making a lot of assumptions there.

From what I've seen, everyone who has tried has run the 5850 @ 700/1000 with no trouble, but no-one has really tried to see how far it will go.

I've gone 750/1100. It seems very stable. I've played Crysis Warhead on these clocks for a good 4 hours. I also get a Vantage score of 8019 with the OC.

That's more like it; 8019 seemed low.

Actually, the 8019 was with the original vbios, scores went up with the beta.
