    Hi,

I will be buying a gt683r somewhere in the near future, and I am going to upgrade the notebook a little.

For starters, im adding a Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD (the notebook does support SATA3 6GB/S right?)

Also I'm getting a ram upgrade. But I have one question there. 8 gigs are already installed. And i notice the used brand is Adata. Now if I were to upgrade with another 8 Gigs, can I use corsair memory, or do all dimms need to be from the same manufacturer?

    Thanks

P.S. is it worth getting 2 of those SSD's in RAID 0 or is it just way overkill? :p

All the gt683r notebooks I've seen come with 12GB of memory which is more than enough for most everyone, yes it does support sata 3 and most will recommend ssd boot drive and mechanical hdd for data.

In Belgium/The Netherlands, only 8 gig models are available, and i will be using this notebook for quite a bit ram intensive use. So do i need to get the same brand?

    Thanks anyway!

It is recomended that both memory modules should be operating at same timings. So you can buy 8 gig module separately, but from same manufacturer (recomended) and same part number. Otherwise you may have compatibility issues and turbo boost not working properly, BSODS etc. It is a possibility of course, in some cases everything will be just fine. Mixing manufacturers is not a bad thing, just keep the timings tight, example all at 9-9-9-24.
Take part number from your mem and type it into google or amazon or ebay, for sure you'll find the right one :)

As other friends already mentioned, 8gb is MORE than enough for EVERYTHING. Even 4GB is enough. So more than 4gb will be for people operaing in CAD and other memory intense programs.
8gb should be enough for the next 2 years at least.

ok, i would recommend leaving the 12gb of ram as it is sincee that will do it for a couple of years.

the best upgrade is definitely the SSD. if u can afford 2 of 120gb, then i would recomment u actually buy a 3xx gb SSD instead. raid 0 performance makes a bit of difference in HDD, but in SSD i would recommend 1 with higher storage. also i would even more recommend a hybrid combo. say 320gb of SSD for OS and games. maybe 1 Tb of HDD for movies and music as well as documents.

personally the best way to go is the low storage SSD for OS/games and high storage HDD for movies and music. OS will load as fast as any SSD and music/movies dont need high speed loading times anyways.

Just saw specs of the gt683r.

it has 2x 500gb in raid 0. what u can do is eliminate the raid 0, sell one of the 500gb for some good money. then buy the ssd and use it as boot drive, and the other 500gb for storage.

that's what i would do taking in consideration that ive already spent 1500 dollars in the laptop itself.
