Hi guys,
In the absence of a Medion sub-forum (and that the X7811 runs similiar if not the same hardware as the GX740), hopefully you wont mind me posting this in here.
After checking over the specs for the GX740, I've been lusting after one for a while now - to replace my old dying Tosh Sat Pro P100. Unfortunately here in the UK, we have a severe lack of choice; either the specifications or the stores to purchase it from.
Without wanting to go on a rant, I've only been able to find 1 official version of the MSI GX740 from Micro Anvika which has the i5 processorfor £999. The only other offering which has been posted elsewhere on this forum (and conveniently has the i7 processor) is from Mesh Computers who; leaving their atrocious track record behind, want an obscene £1299.
This points the way firmly to Medion's Akoya X7811 which unfortunately isn't available in the UK yet and after a friendly chat with Medion, they advised that HQ are undecided about bringing it here, at least until Q4. So the final option really is to import from the continent and open a whole new can of worms, what with; translation, keyboard layout, warranty, shipping costs, etc.
I've been doing further digging and it looks like there are few countries which stock the X7811 but with subtle differences
Germany
Model: X7811 (MD 97532)
Cost: €1349 (£1120)
Notes: i7-820 CPU, QWERTZ (German) keyboard
Model: X7811 (MD 97495)
Cost: €1049 (£870)
Notes: QWERTZ keyboard (German), Original specifications as per notebookcheck
France
Model: X7811 (MD 97438)
Cost: €999 (£820)
Notes: 1440x900 display, AZERTY keyboard (French)
Belgium
Model: X7811 (MD 97432)
Cost: €999 (£820)
Notes: 1440x900 display, AZERTY keyboard (Belgian)
Netherlands
Model: X7811 (MD 97433)
Cost: €999 (£820)
Notes: 1440x900 display, QWERTY keyboard (Dutch)
The review from notebookcheck doesn't give a good opinion of the quality of the screen... if its possible to change the screen, would it make more sense to buy the cheaper one and install a much better one?
I'll leave this open to discussion as it's all giving me headache and I'm going to lie down.

I take it no one is interested in the X7811 then?

I've spoke with Medion GB again today and they said they are definitely getting them but it could from now until Christmas before they get any. Unfortunately I can't sit around with my thumb up my a$$ for that long, this toshiba is practically developing faults every day (got 2 blue lines across my screen now).
I may just have to bite the bullet and pay for something more expensive -

anyone get one of these beauties yet? I'm really interested in what the UK keyboard looks like, because the European version has a shocking keyboard layout, with the Fn Key in the bottom left corner and a tiny enter key.

you can buy one off the medion site, i was looking at those earlier but decided to stick with the gx660.. they are great except for one thing, they are apparently really noisy. almost stupidly loud under load, even the cheaper 6811.
maybe it's ok for light use but anything a bit intensive and it's going to be noisy. -
IMO I want the laptop to be like an airplane taking off. Makes it stand out in a crowd

I got bored of waiting for the X7811 (that and my Tosh finally gave up the ghost), so I decided to import the GX660-R.
Screw Medion (UK), they couldn't organise a up in a brewery, even if it was £200 cheaper.
